Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, tourism industry is one the rapidely progressing industries and contributes substaintally to economic growth around globe. In spite of advantages tourism industry also causes damage to native cultures and environment in some ways that are often ignored. I partially disagree with this statement, tourism industry incorporates more in economic growth than harming any local culture and the environment. So it contributes more positively in any nation's economic than negative.

Firstly, tourism can be considered backbone for any countries because number of countries earn handsome amount by this industry. For instance, gulf countries' economic mostly relay on tourism industry. Secondly, through any nation can represent its own culture and rituals to world in number of ways because when from people around the world visit any country than they mostly record them and post online for others to view. So this also plays a crucial role in representing country's value.

On the other hand there are certain disadvantages that tourism industry bring and cannot be neglected. Tourism industry can cause harm in number of ways. Some people visit other nation with the mission that they will incorporate some new or alter local cultures. On the other hand if there are not any strict rules and restrictions applied by the government then tourism sometimes damages environmet like spreading garbage on visitor's sites, distrubing ecosystems, etc.. But if the government make strict rules and policies then this can be eliminated to some extent.

In conclusion, i would say that tourism gives more advantages like it contributes to economic growth, represents any nation's lifestyle to world etc.. But the other things that needs to be considered are the disadvantages but these disadvantages can be eliminated in number of ways.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the economic contributions of tourism against its potential negative impacts on culture and the environment. The student takes a clear position, stating 'I partially disagree with this statement, tourism industry incorporates more in economic growth than harming any local culture and the environment.' Ideas are presented, such as economic benefits in Gulf countries and cultural representation through social media, but they tend to be somewhat under-developed and general. The conclusion reinforces this stance adequately. While the arguments are relevant and cover both sides of the issue, further extension and concrete examples beyond broad generalizations would be required to reach a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed with a recognizable position throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, body paragraphs addressing different viewpoints, and the conclusion. Logical connectors are used throughout, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, the referencing and transitional links are at times mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'through any nation can represent its own culture' and 'the other things that needs to be considered'. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but the progression of ideas occasionally lacks seamless flow, placing this text securely at band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'substaintally', 'incorporates', 'ecosystems', and 'crucial role'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'rapidely' (rapidly), 'substaintally' (substantially), 'economic' (economy), 'relay' (rely), and 'environmet' (environment). These errors do not seriously impede communication as the reader can still grasp the intended meaning, but they prevent the response from achieving a higher lexical score due to a lack of precise control over less common items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in sentence structures, such as conditional structures ('if the government make strict rules...'). However, grammatical accuracy is noticeably weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions, such as 'tourism industry is one the rapidely progressing industries' (one of the rapidly), 'gulf countries' economic mostly relay' (economies mostly rely), 'when from people around the world' (when people from), and 'the other things that needs' (things that need). While communication is rarely completely blocked, the frequency of errors places this firmly in the band 5 range.
