Student answer (Band 6.0)
The growth of tourism has become a significant trend in recent years, with many individuals from various countries opting to explore different destinations. It is widely acknowledged that tourism plays a substantial role in boosting a nation's economy, as it is one of the fastest-growing industries globally. Nevertheless, some people argue that tourism has a detrimental impact on the environment. I partially agree with this statement and will elaborate on my views in the following paragraphs.
To begin with, tourists often suffer significant expenses when visiting other countries. They have to purchase expensive air tickets, as well as pay for accomodation and hotel stays. Furthermore, they must allocate funds for transporation, such as hiring cars and taxis to visit historical and tourist sites. Additionally, tourists often purchase traditional clothing, which contributes to the local economy of the visited nation.
On the other hand, tourism can have an unfavourable effects on environment. When visitors visit historical sites, they hardly obey local rules and regulations, resulting in litter and polution. Moreover, some tourists engage in vandalism, such as writing on walls, which can damage the historical significantly and aesthetic appeal of these sites. These negative impects cannot be overlooked, and it is esential for the government to implement measures to mitigate them.
In conclusion, while tourism can have numerous benefits for a nation's economy, it also has significant negative effects on the environment that must be addressed. In my opinion, it would be beneficial for tourists to familiarize themselves with local rules and regulations prior to visiting a destination. This can be achieved by researching the place's guidelines on the internet, which would not only benefit the local community but also the tourists themselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear, partially agreeing position on whether tourism's negative impacts on local cultures and the environment are ignored. The response considers both sides of the argument, discussing economic benefits in the second body paragraph and environmental drawbacks in the third. However, the first body paragraph shifts somewhat into discussing tourist expenses rather than the broader economic contribution to local communities, which slightly weakens the direct focus on the prompt. Nevertheless, the position is maintained throughout, and relevant ideas are presented, even though some supporting points could be more fully developed to meet higher band descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing that serves the purpose of the response. The student uses standard transitional markers to guide the reader through the text, such as "To begin with," "Furthermore," and "On the other hand." However, some cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical or formulaic. Referencing and logical progression are generally clear, although the transition from the economic arguments in paragraph two to the environmental focus in paragraph three could be smoother. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate and allows the reader to follow the train of thought without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related terms such as "destinations," "booster," "detrimental impact," "vandalism," and "aesthetic appeal." There are, however, some noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as "accomodation" (accommodation), "transporation" (transportation), "unfavourable effects on environment" (missing article), and "impects" (impacts). While these vocabulary and spelling slips occur, they do not impede communication. The writer attempts less common lexical items with moderate success, placing this response securely at Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the essay, including conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors present, such as "tourists often suffer significant expenses" (awkward collocation for spending money), "hardly obey local rules" (where "scarcely" or "rarely" would be more standard), and "damage the historical significantly and aesthetic appeal" (misplacement of the adverb). Despite these errors in grammar and word order, they rarely impede communication, and the meaning of the sentences remains clear to the reader.
