Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt regarding the economic benefits of tourism and the damage it can cause to local cultures and the environment, but the development of ideas is limited and at times confusing. For instance, the writer states 'I agree with this statement for several reason. However, many individulas moving largest and developing in the futuer,' which mixes up tourism with migration and urbanisation. While a position is stated, the arguments lack clear extension and contain tangents about living in large cities versus small cities rather than focusing strictly on tourism. This corresponds to the Band 5 descriptor where ideas are limited, under-developed, and the relationship to the prompt is occasionally obscured by confusion between tourists and internal migrants.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the overall organisation lacks a clear, logical progression. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as starting consecutive sentences with contrasting conjunctions like 'However' or 'On the other hand' without a logical opposition. Referencing is also problematic, as seen in phrases like 'many people live here and teach us good manier,' where it is unclear who 'here' or 'us' refers to. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal coherence is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic between sentences about pollution, traffic, shopping malls, and local cultures. This aligns with Band 5, showing some organisation and paragraphing, but lacking clear overall progression and featuring inadequate or inaccurate cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'contrubutes a great deak to economic' instead of 'contributes a great deal to economies', 'visiter' for visitors, and 'deffirent' for different. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'environmental pollution' and 'facilities', but inaccurate word forms and collocations are prevalent throughout the response. The range is minimally adequate to convey a very basic message, but the high density of errors places it firmly within the Band 4 to 5 range, leaning towards Band 4 due to the strain these errors place on the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak, with a very limited range of structures and frequent errors. Simple sentences are often malformed, and attempts at complex structures frequently result in ungrammatical constructions, such as 'For exampl, hospitals, university, shopping malls, and fly stations' and 'do can make enviroment is very peacefully.' Punctuation and article usage are erratic, and subject-verb agreement errors are common. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader in extracting meaning, matching the criteria for Band 4 where errors are frequent and often distort meaning.
