Student answer (Band 5.0)
Human beings are fond of travelling. Most people want to explore world therfore tourism is one of the fastest growing industries and contributes a great deal to economies around the world. However, the damage tourism can cause to local cultures and the environment is often ignored. In this essay, I will discuss both view and give my own opinion in forthcoming paragraphs.
I strongly believed that tourism is a best way of generating income since in many nations it is a source of their survival. Their most part of income is come from tourism. It is helped in states development. Moreover, tourism helps in cultural exposure. A survey conducted by a prestigious newspaper of Britain said that the tourism is a superb method of nations income and development. In addition, explored many cities with tourism. For instance, the people living in hilly areas their main source of income is tourism, they get money by tourists when they visit there.
On the other hand, tourism can cause many issues. Individuals threw garbage in the scenic spots. It dirty the surrounding. It also waste too much water by open taps. It is main cause of destroy the culture. Besides, it spoiled natural scenery with trash and use derogatory language. Apart from this, government modified the tourist places such as castles of rulers with this original beauty of the place is destroyed.
Different people have different notions regarding this statement but I have sound reasons to advocate that although tourism has many advantages but challenges it poses cannot be overlooked.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, expressing a clear position that while tourism brings economic and cultural benefits, its negative impacts on the environment and local cultures cannot be overlooked. The writer attempts to cover both sides of the issue. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs where points about income and environmental damage are stated rather than fully extended. For instance, the mention that 'individuals threw garbage in the scenic spots' is a relevant point, but it lacks sufficient elaboration or specific examples to elevate the argumentation. Furthermore, the concluding stance is slightly contradictory to the introduction where the writer promised to 'discuss both view and give my own opinion', whereas the body paragraphs lean heavily into agreeing with the negative impacts while acknowledging economic benefits. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, placing this performance in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into four paragraphs, demonstrating an overall logical structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas within paragraphs is often disrupted by abrupt transitions and confusing referencing. For example, the sentence 'For instance, the people living in hilly areas their main source of income is tourism...' suffers from poor syntactic cohesion. Cohesive devices are used, but they tend to be mechanical or repetitive, such as starting multiple sentences with 'Moreover', 'In addition', or 'Besides'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks seamless flow. The referencing pronoun usage is sometimes unclear, which requires the reader to work harder to follow the intended logic. These cohesion issues and mechanical linking patterns firmly place the response at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'prestigious newspaper', 'derogatory language', and 'scenic spots'. However, there are frequent noticeable errors in word choice, word formation, and collocation throughout the text. Examples include 'therfore' (therefore), 'is come from' (comes from), 'help in states development' (helps in state development), and 'cause of destroy' (cause of destroying). The writer also relies on basic and repetitive vocabulary items like 'tourism', 'income', and 'money'. While the meaning is generally communicated despite these lexical inaccuracies, the frequency of errors restricts the score for this criterion to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Although tourism has many advantages but challenges it poses cannot be overlooked' (which also contains a redundancy error with 'although' and 'but'). However, the text is heavily marred by frequent grammatical errors and poor sentence structures. Noticeable errors include tense misuse ('It is helped', 'is come'), subject-verb agreement issues ('the people living in hilly areas their main source of income is'), missing articles, and fragments like 'It dirty the surrounding.' Punctuation errors are also present. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate limited control over complex structures, indicating a performance consistent with Band 5.0.
