Student answer (Band 6.0)
The tourism industry has expanded in recent decades and has become an important source of the economic growth in many countries. Nevertheless, the negative effect of tourism on the local culture and and environment is overlooked. I completely agree with this view, although tourism provides significant economic benifits.
One major advantage of tourism is that it provides considerable economic benifits to the local communities. Tourists spend money on hotels, transportation, resturants and local attraction that creates employment opportunities and generates income for businesses. For example, popular tourist destination Dubai employ thousands of employees in hotel, resturants, and transportation services. Therefore, tourism can play an important role in improving the econoic condition of a region.
However, excessive tourism can have a negative impact on local cultures and environment. When a large number of tourists arrive in a particular area, local traditions become commercialized to satisfy tourists. For instance, traditional festivals may increasingly be organized as entertainment for visitiors rather than being celebrated primarily for their cultural and religious significance. As a result, the original meaning of some traditions become less important.
Tourism also cause several environmental problems. Popular tourist destination offer experience increased ammount of waste, pollution, and pressure on natural resources. For example, the beaches that recieve thousands of visitors during the summer can suffer from plastic waste and water pollution. If these things are not controlled, the tourism can damage the natural attractions and environment.
In conclusion, tourism plays an important role in the economy of a country and created opportunities of employment for the local citizens but it also has negative effect on the culture and environment of the specific area. Government and local citizens has to balance economic growth and protection of their culture and traditions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the economic benefits of tourism and the negative impacts on local cultures and the environment. A clear position is established in the introduction where you state that you completely agree with the view that damage is often overlooked. Each body paragraph explores a distinct theme, such as economic advantages, cultural commercialization, and environmental degradation, supported by relevant examples such as Dubai and crowded beaches. Ideas are generally well-extended, though some further elaboration on how to resolve the conflict between economic gain and preservation could elevate the final paragraph. Overall, the task is successfully and thoroughly addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with economic benefits, moving to cultural impacts, and then addressing environmental issues. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, with transition words such as 'Nevertheless', 'For example', and 'In conclusion' guiding the reader smoothly through your arguments. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating distinct ideas into logical blocks. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional minor mechanical links or repetition in concluding summaries slightly prevent the cohesion from achieving a higher band. Overall, the structure is sound and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, with some attempt to use less common items such as 'commercialized', 'degradation', and 'significance'. However, there are a few noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'benifits' instead of benefits, 'resturants' instead of restaurants, 'econoic' instead of economic, and 'ammount' instead of amount. Additionally, some phrases like 'offer experience increased ammount' in the fourth paragraph contain collocation errors and awkward phrasing. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are several grammatical and agreement errors throughout the text. For instance, in the first paragraph, the phrase 'effect of tourism on the local culture and and environment' contains a duplicate word, and later 'the original meaning of some traditions become' has a subject-verb agreement error (traditions become). Furthermore, the fourth paragraph has structural awkwardness in 'Popular tourist destination offer experience increased ammount'. Punctuation and article usage also show occasional inaccuracies. Although these errors rarely impede overall communication, they prevent the grammar score from reaching a Band 7.
