Student answer (Band 5.5)

Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries all over the world. Tourism contributes a lot in the economies of countries. However, some people argue that some tourists are polluting the environment. Moreover, damage tourism affects the local cultures. I largely agree that tourism affecting the local cultures and polluting the environment.

On the one hand, tourism is making a significant impact on country by contributing in economy. Most of countries like Dubai, Saudia Arabia are constructing buildings and making natural tourist points to attract tourist from all over the world. Moreover, their most of economy contribution are coming from tourism. For example, most tourist prefer to visit northern side of Pakistan because of its naturals views. Futhermore, Pakistan government can make a big revenew from this chance making out natural view to tourist points.

On the other hand, damage tourism can cause to local cultures and polluting environment. Most tourists throw garbage on tourist points. Increasing in trousim is affecting climate change by planes emission. In addition, it is making a big impact on the environment. Local cultures and traditions are changing because of damage tourism. Cultures and traditions are becoming just part of entertainment.

In my opinion, tourism play a big role in development of a country. Countries have to invest more to engage more tourist. However, government have to make laws to control the envirmental factors.

To conclude, tourism is making big impact on the economies of countries. However, they should be controlled by some policies to make a pollution free environment. Government can make policy to protect local cultures and tradition, so that, they cannot be part of just entertainment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the economic benefits of tourism alongside its negative impacts on local cultures and the environment, thereby presenting a clear position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on environmental damage mentions throwing garbage and plane emissions, but these points are stated briefly rather than thoroughly extended. Phrases like "damage tourism affects the local cultures" show some awkwardness in task execution. Overall, the ideas are relevant, but greater depth and more precise examples would be needed to reach a higher band. This corresponds to Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into five paragraphs, including a clear introduction and conclusion. Logical sequencing is present, with transitional phrases like 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In my opinion' guiding the reader through the structure. However, referencing and cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly phrased, such as 'damage tourism' used repeatedly instead of appropriate pronouns or synonyms. Paragraphing is generally sufficient, but the progression of ideas within paragraphs feels somewhat disjointed due to simple sentence structures and repetitive phrasing. These characteristics align with Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, incorporating topic-related terms such as 'economies', 'cultures', 'environment', 'climate change', and 'revenew'. However, there are frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'damage tourism' instead of 'damaging tourism' or 'the damage caused by tourism', and 'naturals views' instead of 'natural views'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'revenew' and 'envirmental'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, the noticeable inaccuracies in form and collocation prevent the score from rising above Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures, such as 'so that, they cannot be part of just entertainment.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'tourism play a big role' and 'government have to make laws', as well as missing articles ('contributing in economy'). Errors in word formation and prepositions also appear regularly. Although these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency and the faulty execution of complex structures place this text firmly at Band 5.
