Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The student's response fails to address the specific topic of tourism, its economic benefits, and the damage it causes to local cultures and the environment. Instead, the essay relies entirely on generic template phrases containing placeholders like '[TOPIC]' and platitudes about daily life, young people, and government support. As a result, the response is largely off-topic and fails to present a clear position or develop any relevant ideas pertaining to the prompt. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the response contains only 180 words, falling significantly short of the 250-word minimum. This severely impacts the task achievement score, resulting in a band 3.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

Despite the lack of relevant content, the essay maintains a basic logical structure with an introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion. Transitional markers such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to connect sentences and paragraphs. However, paragraphing is basic, and the heavy reliance on templated, vague sentences means that the overall flow feels mechanical and disconnected from any real argumentative progression. Referencing is unclear due to the unfulfilled '[TOPIC]' placeholders. Based on these organizational attempts combined with structural flaws, a band 4.0 is appropriate.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used throughout the response is extremely repetitive, basic, and generalized, such as 'important issue', 'positive and negative effects', and 'better choices'. Because the essay relies on template structures featuring '[TOPIC]', there is no domain-specific vocabulary related to tourism, economics, environmental impact, or cultural preservation. While the words used are generally spelled correctly, the lexical range is severely restricted and inadequate for an Academic Task 2 response. This performance aligns with the descriptors for a band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates control over simple sentence structures and basic complex forms, such as 'The main reason is that [TOPIC] can have a direct effect on people and society' and 'If people and society work together, the negative effects can be reduced'. Grammatical errors are relatively infrequent in the simple sentences produced, and punctuation is generally handled correctly. However, the grammatical range is limited due to the repetitive syntax and lack of advanced structures. Because the actual language produced is mostly accurate despite being templated, a band 5.0 is awarded.
