Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by discussing both the economic benefits of tourism and the negative impacts on culture and the environment. However, the response is written entirely in note form, lacking full sentences, clear paragraph structure, and proper essay development. Crucially, the text contains only 131 words, severely falling short of the mandatory 250-word minimum specified for Academic Task 2. Because the ideas are heavily truncated, undeveloped, and the length requirement is severely breached, the score for this criterion is heavily penalised, resulting in a Band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response is structured as disjointed bullet-point fragments and short phrases rather than connected paragraphs with logical progression. Cohesive devices are largely absent, and transitions between ideas are abrupt. For instance, the shift from economic benefits to cultural damage uses a simplistic 'partially agree cause' without standard essay transitional phrases or clear referencing. Paragraphing is non-existent, and the ideas do not flow logically as a coherent piece of academic writing. This reflects the descriptors for Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The student relies on elementary words such as 'travel', 'food', 'money', and 'shop', alongside frequent spelling and word-form errors like 'oppturnity' instead of opportunity, 'revenu' instead of revenue, 'practsies' instead of practices, 'narritive' instead of narrative, 'belif' instead of belief, 'enviorment' instead of environment, 'hower' instead of however, and 'incresing' instead of increasing. These lexical limitations and errors constrain the communication, aligning with the Band 4.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The submission fails to demonstrate a control of sentence structures, consisting entirely of fragmented notes and incomplete clauses rather than full grammatical sentences. There is a complete absence of complex grammatical structures. Punctuation and capitalization are entirely ignored throughout the response. Frequent errors in grammar and word forms prevent any evaluation of sentence-level accuracy, placing the performance firmly at Band 4.0.
