Student answer (Band 5.5)
Tourism is one of the fastest developing industries and contributes a great deal to economies around the Globe. Therefore the distruction tourism can cause to rural cultures and the surroundings is sometimes ignored. Tourism has both the good abd bad sides for individuals, communities, and countries.
Firstly, tourism creates job oppourtunities. Tourism provides jobs in hotel, resturants, transportaion, tour guiding entertainment, and other businesses. When people tour, they tend to have more chances of having a job, sometimes permarnet or temporary. In that way it contributes to the growth of companies and brings about economic rise in the country.
Secondly,Tourism develops infrastructure. Tourist destination may receive better roads, airports, hospitals, telecommuninactions, and other facilities. With this it grows the economy and brings a great deal.
In contarary, tourism makes cost of living expensive. The increased demand from tourists can raise the prices of accomodation, food, land, and other goods for local residents. It makes life difficult for them, They do not tend to afford most of the things anymore because of the price increase and these problems are mostly ignored in the society.
In conclusion, torism can create job opportunities, generate income, develop communities and promote culture, but if it poorly managed, it can cause environmental damage, overcrowding higher prices, and cultural problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the economic benefits of tourism and the negative impacts on cultures and environments, presenting a clear viewpoint throughout. However, the length requirement of 250 words is not met, as the essay contains only 213 words. This under-length results in under-developed ideas, particularly in the body paragraphs where points like infrastructure development and cost of living are listed rather than fully extended with specific examples or deep analysis. While the position is discernible and the main parts of the task are touched upon, the lack of sufficient word count and supporting detail prevents the response from reaching a higher band score. To improve, ensure all arguments are thoroughly explained with relevant examples and always write above the minimum word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a basic logical organisation with an introduction, separate body paragraphs for distinct points, and a conclusion. Transitional markers such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'In contarary', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text, although some cohesive devices are mechanically applied or contain typographical errors, such as 'In contarary'. Paragraphing is attempted appropriately, with each main idea grouped into its own section. However, referencing and progression are sometimes repetitive or abrupt, limiting the overall flow. The logical progression is adequate for a basic level of coherence, but smoother transitions and more sophisticated referencing are needed for higher bands.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is somewhat limited and repetitive, with basic vocabulary used throughout the text. There are numerous spelling mistakes and typographical errors across the response, including 'distruction' instead of 'destruction', 'abd' instead of 'and', 'oppourtunities' instead of 'opportunities', 'resturants' instead of 'restaurants', 'transportaion' instead of 'transportation', 'permarnet' instead of 'permanent', 'telecommuninactions' instead of 'telecommunications', 'accomodation' instead of 'accommodation', and 'torism' instead of 'tourism'. Despite these noticeable errors, the meaning remains generally clear to the reader. To improve, you should expand your range of less common lexical items and pay closer attention to accurate spelling and word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a mix of simple and moderately complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('if it poorly managed') and subordinate clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is weak due to frequent errors, including missing words ('if it [is] poorly managed'), punctuation and comma splice issues ('life difficult for them, They do not tend'), and incorrect preposition usage. There are also sentence construction issues, such as 'With this it grows the economy and brings a great deal.' Although communication is not entirely impeded and meaning can be understood, the density of errors places this response firmly in the lower-middle band for grammatical accuracy.
