Student answer (Band 5.5)
Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries and it also contributes a great deal to different economies around the world. But, the damage tourism can cause to local cultures and the environment is often ignored.
Some people might think the tourism poses a great effect on the local cultures because they think that the tourists can cause harm to the environment by creating pollution and by breaking the discipline of any place.
From my perpective, i think that tourism plays a vital role in the economy of the country. It also increases the value and importance of that place.
For Example, Turkey is very famous for its tourism. People from far off places come to visit the Turkey and they explore its beautiful places. The economy of the Turkey is highly dependent on its tourism. The people of the Turkey earn majorly from the tourism. Moreover, Paris is also famous for its Eiffel Tower. Tourists visit that place and capture breathtaking pictures, which not only increases the economy but also enhances the value of that specific city and ultimately the country value. Tourism is also effective in terms of awareness and educational knowledge. Parents along with their children visit interesting buildings such as monuments, large mosques, tombs to develope the interest and social awarness in children. Tourism is increasing day by day. Every year, millions of people visit different places.
In conclusion, tourism holds a very special place in every country economy and i strongly disagree with the statment that it causes damage to local cultures and environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position ('i strongly disagree with the statment that it causes damage to local cultures and environment'). However, the development of ideas leans heavily on simplistic examples and generalisations rather than deep argumentation. The student mentions Turkey and Paris to support economic benefits, but the explanation remains quite superficial. Furthermore, the counter-argument regarding cultural and environmental damage mentioned in the prompt is only briefly acknowledged in the second paragraph and not fully refuted or explored in depth. While all parts of the prompt are touched upon, the overall depth of exploration aligns best with Band 6.0 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with clear attempts at linking ideas, such as using 'From my perpective', 'For Example', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion'. However, paragraphing is poorly handled; the entire body of the essay is clustered into one massive, dense paragraph, which negatively impacts structural progression. Additionally, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical, and referencing is occasionally clunky (e.g., 'visit the Turkey', 'the Turkey'). Because of the lack of proper paragraph division for distinct ideas, the coherence and cohesion score is limited to Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully using terms such as 'industries', 'economies', 'breathtaking pictures', and 'awareness'. There are, however, several noticeable errors in word choice, article usage, and collocation, such as 'visit the Turkey', 'the economy of the Turkey', and spelling errors like 'perpective' and 'develope'. Less common lexical items are attempted but lack precision and natural control, placing the lexical resource firmly at a Band 5.5 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'Some people might think the tourism poses a great effect...' and 'Tourists visit that place and capture breathtaking pictures, which not only increases the economy...'. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with capitalization ('i', 'Turkey'), punctuation, and article usage (unnecessary definite articles before 'tourism' and country names). However, these errors rarely impede overall communication. The grammatical control is representative of a Band 5.5 performance.
