Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding the economic benefits and the environmental and cultural drawbacks of tourism. While a position is stated, the ideas are often underdeveloped and repetitive, particularly in the introduction and conclusion. The example provided about the toy company is overly simplistic and wanders into irrelevance regarding children insisting on buying toys. There is an attempt to cover all parts of the task as required by the prompt, but the reasoning lacks depth and extension, preventing it from reaching a higher band score. It fits the Band 5 profile because the ideas remain limited and partially developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding statement. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive summary statements. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and sometimes inaccurate way, such as 'Firstly,' and 'Secondly,' but the internal links between sentences are weak. Referencing is unclear at times, particularly with pronouns like 'they' and 'their,' which often shift referents confusingly. Paragraphing is attempted, but the overall organization lacks a smooth flow, placing it firmly at Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'the tourism are the fastest growing industries' and 'they participate to deal with economies' display severe issues with word choice and collocation. There are numerous inappropriate word forms, such as 'tourisms has may negative impacts' and 'green gas' instead of greenhouse gases. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for conveying very basic concepts, but the frequent lexical errors cause strain and confusion for the reader, aligning with the Band 4 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay. The text contains a high frequency of basic structural errors, incorrect verb tenses, and faulty subject-verb agreements, such as 'the tourism are provide' and 'tourists are visited.' Complex sentences are attempted, but they almost invariably contain severe grammatical errors that obscure meaning. Punctuation is also problematic, with improper comma usage breaking up simple clauses. Because errors are extremely frequent and frequently impede communication, the grammar matches a Band 4 level.
