Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people are more fond of travelling and witnessing new places which also helps local industries, vendors and country's economy. However, it is also has some cons which is ignored as in some countries due to over reliance on tourism they forgot their own roots and also some part of tourists damage local environment by polluting it. I believe that tourism is a important factor for any country to boost their culture and economy, even after having some issues related to it.

With growing prevalence of social media, people are aware about new places and wants to experience new cultures. Therefore they visit new places which helps local vendors to grow. Moreover, it helps in boosting country's economy. For instance, some nations like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Thailand and some small island nations like Maldives are majorly depends on tourism as their major part of GDP comes from international visits of different people.

Furthermore, many people every year fly through new locations and know their cultures, so tourism also helps to spread local cultures to over the world. For example, nation like India which is famous for its vast cultures and heritage sites. Today, people are more aware about India's various cultures due to tourism. Hence, tourist activity helps to spread local culture to over the world.

However, some also believe that, with a significant shift towards tourism people are moving out from their roots and choosing foreign customs which affects their local heritage. In addition to that, some tourist also pollute environment by throwing waste at scenic locations. But government these days working on this issues by promoting local cultures and introducing strong cleanliness rules.

In my opinion, damage to local cultures and environment are major issues but they can't overweight the advantages of tourism because it helps many locals to survive and spread cultures among the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting an opinion on both the economic benefits and the negative impacts of tourism on local cultures and the environment. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, while the economic advantages are well supported with examples like Dubai, Singapore, and Maldives, the counter-arguments regarding cultural erosion and environmental damage are introduced rapidly without sufficient elaboration or concrete examples. The position is clear throughout the essay, culminating in a well-defined conclusion that weighs the conflicting aspects of the industry.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression of ideas from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct theme. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. For example, transitional phrases like 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore' are used adequately, but referencing and linking within sentences occasionally falter, as seen in phrases like 'some tourist also pollute' and 'with a significant shift towards tourism people are moving out', where smoother cohesive transitions would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

An adequate range of vocabulary is deployed for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas effectively. There are successful attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'prevalence', 'over-reliance', 'heritage sites', and 'scenic locations'. Nevertheless, some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form are present throughout the text. Examples include 'fly through new locations' instead of 'travel to', 'nation like India' missing an article, and minor word-form slips like 'tourist' used as a singular plural. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect the ceiling of a moderate band descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structures such as conditional and concessive clauses introduced by 'However' and 'Although'. However, a persistent cluster of grammar and punctuation errors remains evident across the text. These include subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'it is also has some cons' and 'nations... is majorly depends', incorrect verb forms like 'people... wants' and 'government these days working', and missing articles. While these errors occur frequently enough to prevent a higher rating, they rarely impede overall communication or obscure the writer's core message.
