Student answer (Band 6.5)

Due to gloablization and modernization, tourism has became one of fastest growing industries that generate great wealth across the globe. Therefore, many foreigners are now allowed to enter countries and expeirence its beauty on tourist visas. Admittedly, It has significant impact on a country's economy. However, other people believe that the disadvantages that it carries for local cultures and environment are often overlooked. I largely disagree with this view.

There are several reasons that support my disagreement. Due to advancements in technology, people have access to information and have awareness about how to behave and conduct themselves in various social and cultural societies. Earlier, visitors from western world didn't pay heed to local cultures and explored the lands wearing their shorts. Many rural communities used to find it offensive and inappropritae dressing. However, now travel vloggers from USA are often seen in Pakistani national dress, speaking Urdu and offering their greetings such as "Aslam Alaikum". At an individual level, tourists are now more concerned the way they behave in Pakistan with respect to both culture and environment and try not to damage it in any way. Additionally, some visitors often research about the local communities of the region they deciede to plan with the intent of learning and immersing in regional traditions and rituals

In terms of government's reaction toward increasing tourism, I am of view that a profound consideration has been put in how to maintain and mitigate the negative effects of tourism. They implement policies and measures such no access to highly religious and sensitive places to ensure both local and tourist safety. People are allowed to enjoy natural sceneries and other historical places and often post the pictures online. For environmental safety, dustbins are installed at different tourist sites.

Additionally, in recent years hotels and restaurants earned a great deal of money from tourism as accomodation was used by tourists. However, construction of such building displaced several local communities and the waste form here is pumped into their water resources. But, nowadays local people have built shelters and cultural stay places where tourists can relax and explore the culture in its true essence. It doesn't only protect local people and environment but also fosters tolerance and mutual understanding between the people of two different cultural, religious and national identities.

To conclude, media probably doesn't cover the tourism industry much but that doesn't mean it is ignored. You can find that Pakistan has been ranked as top 10 beautiful destinations to visit and explore because of its natural sceneries and historical places, and a major part of its GDP comes from that industry. Therefore, both at individual and organizational levels measures have been taken to sustain and maintain the tourism. Therefore, the local cultures and environment isn't ignored in terms of tourism.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that disagrees with the notion that damage from tourism is ignored. You present relevant ideas regarding individual awareness and government policies, which allows the essay to meet the criteria for addressing the prompt. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher level. For instance, the paragraph discussing government measures touches upon policies like restricting access to sensitive areas and installing dustbins, but these points remain somewhat general and lack deeper elaboration or specific examples. To move up, you need to extend and support all your main arguments with more thorough explanations and fully developed examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central stance stated in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Each paragraph follows a distinct thematic focus, moving from individual responsibility to government measures and community-led initiatives. However, cohesion can feel slightly mechanical at times, with repetitive transitions such as "Additionally" and "Therefore" used to link ideas. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally imprecise, as seen in the final paragraph where pronouns and linking phrases do not always create smooth progression. To achieve a higher band, you should ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and subtly, while strengthening the logical bridges between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points effectively. You make some successful attempts to use less common items such as "gloablization," "immersing," and "mitigate." However, there are notable spelling errors ("gloablization," "expeirence," "inappropritae," "deciede," "accomodation") and occasional inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as "how to maintain and mitigate the negative effects" or "the region they deciede to plan." These errors do not impede communication, which aligns well with the current band, but they prevent a higher score. To improve, you should focus on expanding your control of less common vocabulary, refining word partnerships, and paying closer attention to spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the response, successfully constructing multi-clause sentences such as "Due to advancements in technology, people have access to information..." However, there are several grammar and punctuation errors present, including missing articles ("in terms of government's reaction," "as part of its GDP comes from that industry"), prepositions inside grammatical patterns ("concerned the way they behave"), and minor subject-verb agreement or tense slips ("tourism has became," "the waste form here is pumped"). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To progress to a higher band, you need to increase your proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate tighter control over complex grammatical structures and article usage.
