Student answer (Band 5.5)

Over the past years, tourism is the most rapidly increasing industry and it helps in boosting the economies across the globe. But the destruction caused by travellers to local culture and atmosphere is overlooked. I partially agree with the statement because it is impacting positively to countries and many actions were taken to control damages at tourists attraction places but at some level it is also ignored because new things added in to local culture.

Tourism industries benefit countries in many aspects it not only contributes to economy of countries but also potray positive image of the country around the world. Tourism creates the positive image of country infront of the world and creates image of hospitality and safety which attracts many investors who is willing to invest in country which helps in the country economy boosts. For instance, many media channels make negative image of Pakistan infront of world which prevents investors to invest their capital in the country. After prevalence of tourist activity this negative narrative is converted in to positive image. Now alot of peoples are willing to invest their capital. Furthermore, many tourist guides is working on environmental damages and the situation is undercontrol.

On the other hand, many tourist brings their culture along with them and result in local getting influenced from their cultural values which is a great threat to community. Along with that, goveronment are earning from tourism industry but not investing on tourist attraction places which result in damage to recreational sites.

To conclude, althought tourism is beneficial for country it also brings few challenges which should not be overlooked and need proper attention. I agree that with advantages tourism also have certain drawbacks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position, though some ideas are more fully developed than others. The introduction outlines a partial agreement, noting economic benefits and control measures on one side, and cultural impacts on the other. Body paragraphs present relevant ideas regarding foreign investment and negative media narratives, as seen in the discussion about Pakistan. However, certain points remain under-developed or somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding environmental damage and government spending, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement and logical flow of ideas, utilizing paragraphing to separate main points effectively. Cohesive devices are employed to connect sentences and paragraphs, such as 'For instance', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel mechanical or slightly repetitive, as seen with phrases linking economic impacts. While the overall progression is clear enough to guide the reader through the writer's arguments, greater variety and flexibility in cohesive links are needed to achieve a smoother, more natural structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's central arguments about tourism and the economy. The student attempts less common lexical items, such as 'prevalence', 'narrative', and 'recreational sites', though this is accompanied by some word-choice and word-form inaccuracies, such as 'tourists attraction places' instead of tourist attractions, and 'alot of peoples'. Spelling is generally clear and does not impede communication, but occasional slips in collocation and precision mean the language control remains at a moderate level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with attempts at subordination and relative clauses. There are noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues such as 'tourism is' alongside tense shifts, pluralisation errors like 'many tourist brings', and missing articles or prepositions in phrases like 'helps in the country economy boosts'. Although these errors occur throughout the text, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended meaning despite the lack of consistent grammatical control.
