Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response only partially addresses the prompt and falls well short of the minimum length requirement. Specifically, 33 words copied directly from the task prompt were excluded from the official word count, leaving the student's actual production at 189 words, which is 61 words below the required 250 words. While the writer attempts to take a position agreeing with the prompt, the ideas presented are extremely limited and under-developed. For example, the argument regarding environmental and cultural damage is diverted into a simplistic discussion about bad behavior and social media advertising, such as mentioning 'instagram, tiktok, youtube', without addressing the core elements of environmental degradation or cultural erosion. To improve, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fully met and extend their arguments with specific examples and deeper analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The response shows some basic organization, but there is no clear overall progression or logical structuring of ideas. Paragraphing is extremely fragmented and basic, with single sentences often forming isolated blocks rather than cohesive thematic units. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, relying heavily on basic transitional words like 'first of the all', 'second', and 'secondly' rather than smooth referencing. For instance, the transition between discussing economic contributions and environmental damage is abrupt and lacks logical connection. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to group related ideas into properly developed paragraphs and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader clearly through the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The student displays a limited and minimally adequate vocabulary range suitable for conveying basic ideas, such as 'industries', 'economic', 'traditions', and 'delicious'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'contibution', 'contries', 'gwrowing', 'demage', and 'glourious'. These errors reflect an insufficient grasp of word formation and spelling conventions. Furthermore, vocabulary is often repetitive, relying on everyday terms without attempting less common or sophisticated lexical items. To improve, the writer should expand their active vocabulary, pay closer attention to standard spelling, and practice natural collocations related to tourism and economics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The text demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex clauses that result in structural failure. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement ('the question they are asking that am agree or not'), article usage ('visit other country'), and prepositions. Punctuation is also erratic, with run-on sentences and misuse of commas. For example, the sentence starting with 'second any person of another country' is ungrammatically structured and difficult to parse. To achieve a higher band, the writer must improve control over basic sentence boundaries, reduce frequent errors, and demonstrate accurate use of subordinate clauses and verb forms.
