Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent year, tourism have become one of the major contributer of economy across the globe and growing rapidly. While, the drawbacks of tourism towards not only regional culture but also the environment is left unconsidered. I opine that i completely agree with this statement because native culture shrinking and pollution is increasing.

To commence with the major problem that caused by tourism is people are adapting to the culture of the place where they visited and their own culture is shrinking. Apart from that, it is happening in vice-versa also residents of tourist places are changing their lifestyle according to tourists. For example, in india most of the people are wearing western clothes instead of traditional indian attire. As a result, marginal number of people preferring indian clothes and indian culture is vanishing.

Furthermore, tourism contributing to increament of pollution. To elaborate, Because number of visitor is increasing rapidly, more and more vehical are required for transportation. Therefore, emission of fuel used to run vehicle releasing vast amount of carbon dioxide in environment, which contribute in climate change (global warming). For example, a study conducted on a hill station in india indicates that the air pollution grows significantly in recent years around that area since the number of visitors increased. In addition, the sound of vehicle engine and voice of visitors increase noise pollution. What is more important that wildlife is disturbing due to these noise. Due to increased noise wild animals which are sensitive to sound are migrating to another habitat. As a result, biodiversity is decreasing near that place.

In conclusion, despite the tourism greatly contributes in economy of country, the damage caused to the native culture and the environment by tourism should not be avoided.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, agreeing with the given prompt. Main ideas are extended and supported, such as discussing how native cultures shrink and pollution increases, although there is a slight tendency to overgeneralize with examples like clothing choices in India. The position is maintained well from the introduction to the conclusion, with relevant arguments provided about both cultural impacts and environmental damage. To move into higher bands, the ideas could be developed with greater nuance and deeper elaboration, avoiding generalized assertions and providing more robust, well-supported arguments for each point raised.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organization throughout. Information and ideas are arranged coherently, with distinct paragraphs dedicated to the introduction, cultural impacts, environmental consequences, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Apart from that', and 'Furthermore' are used to signal logical connections between sentences and paragraphs, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The response fully satisfies the requirements of the lower band and begins to show features of the next band through its logical sequencing, but referencing and cohesion could be handled with greater flexibility and subtlety to achieve a completely smooth flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used provides an adequate range for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly regarding tourism, culture, and pollution. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'biodiversity', 'migrating', and 'significantly', but these are accompanied by notable word choice and spelling errors that prevent a higher rating, such as 'contributer', 'increament', 'vehical', and 'disturbing' instead of 'disturbed'. These lexical inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, but they highlight limitations in word choice, spelling, and collocation. To improve, the writer should focus on precise lexical control and accurate word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'In recent year, tourism have become', 'the major problem that caused by tourism is', 'number of visitor is increasing', and 'wildlife is disturbing'. These grammatical lapses and punctuation slips occur regularly throughout the text. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to eliminate basic agreement and article errors, and ensure that complex sentence structures are constructed with greater accuracy and control.
