Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays tourism is one of the rapidly growing industries and beneficial to economies around the world. however, some people argue that the damage tourism can cause to local cultures and the environment is often ignored. I completely agree with this view because some tourists damage the environment and damage local culture and properties.

One of the main reasons why i agree with this view is some people visit new nations and states they damage local properties and cultures. Some people wear clothes and some damage the properties of governments. For instances, visitors always wears clothes that don't match to the local people clothes and some people always try to damage the local properties, in addition some visitor always show disrespect to local people. As a result, it damage the culture and local properties also got affected by these thing.

Another important reason is that visitors they always use plastic bags and throw them into river, streets and on roads also. New visitors prefers plastic bags and they are not entrusted to put those plastic bags into dustbins. For example, many tourist do not try to clean the environment and use bags which are detrimental for environment. Therefore, tourism can effect environment also.

In conclusion, I completely agree that tourism promote economical beneficial, but it encourage environment damage and cause damage to local culture also. Individuals who visit new nation and cities also damage local properties and also some times they show disrespect to local communities. These are main reasons which cause damage to local cultures and the environment by tourism.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

Your position is clear: “I completely agree,” and you address both local culture and environmental harm, with examples involving disrespectful visitors and plastic waste. However, the cultural examples are vague or confusing: wearing clothes that do not match local clothing is not clearly explained as causing damage, and the claims about property damage are not supported with a specific example. The environmental paragraph is more relevant but repeats the point about plastic without developing its effects. The response is also 4 words below the 250-word minimum; the 14 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. To strengthen the response, explain each cause and consequence more fully and use a concrete, relevant example for each main idea.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of the argument. You also use linking expressions such as “As a result,” “For example,” and “Therefore.” However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and several ideas are repeated rather than developed. For instance, the first body paragraph moves between clothing, government property, and disrespect without showing how these points connect. Phrases such as “also” recur in the conclusion. Organise each body paragraph around one clear claim, then explain it and give a specific example; use referencing and linking words more selectively.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general argument, including “local cultures,” “environment,” “plastic bags,” and “local communities.” Some phrases also attempt to express consequences, such as “detrimental for environment.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which makes parts of the argument imprecise. For example, “economical beneficial” does not express the intended idea naturally, and “damage the culture and local properties” is repeated without more precise wording. Build a wider set of accurate terms for tourism’s effects, and check common combinations of words. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish cultural disrespect, property damage, and pollution rather than grouping them together.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a cause-and-effect structure beginning “As a result” and a sentence introduced by “For example.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors occur frequently in sentence construction and agreement. Examples include “some people visit new nations and states they damage,” which joins clauses without correct punctuation or a connector, and “visitors always wears,” where the subject and verb do not agree. Other examples include “it damage” and “tourism promote,” which also need agreement, while “however” should be capitalised after the full stop. Practise forming complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation. Using a few accurate complex sentences is more effective than joining several ideas into one faulty sentence.
