Student answer (Band 6.0)

Tourism is rapidly growing industry across the world and it significantly boosts the local economies. The scale of its negative impacts on local communities and natural habitat is often over shadowed. I largely agree with this view point that tourism cause environmental damage and pose a threat to traditional culture of local people.

First of all, the environment of popular tourist destinations is getting polluted with each coming day. This is mostly due the ignorant behaviour of individuals who leave their garbage at open spaces without utilising the dustbins placed there for that purpose. For example, the increased number of visitors to Murree has resulted in pollution around the streets and plastic bottles and bags are visible at open spaces. As a result, streets have become smelly and site is losing its natural beauty. Therefore, the overall number of people visiting Murree has reduced in recent times.

Secondly, visitors often don't value the local customs and their tradtitions. They don't feel safe around tourists and often express their frustration with the actions they perform there. For instance, in Chitral natives on their several festivals came out with their families and perform dance. The tourists start filming them and share their personal pictures and videos on social media. Consequently, they have start abandoning their traditions and are concerned about the future of their social norms.

In conclusion, although tourism benefits the local economy of a country, its diverse impacts are polluting the surroundings and residents of those regions doesn't feel safe and comfortable at their own backyards.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you largely agree that tourism can harm the environment and local culture, and the conclusion returns to the contrast with economic benefits. Both sides of the stated concern are addressed, with relevant examples from Murree and Chitral. The pollution example explains a visible consequence, while the cultural example shows how filming festivals may make residents uncomfortable. However, some points are not fully developed: the claim that Murree’s visitor numbers have fallen is not explained or supported, and the Chitral example would benefit from clarifying how tourists’ behaviour leads people to abandon traditions. More precise explanation of these links would make the argument more fully extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to two focused body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and examples are placed alongside the relevant claims. This provides a coherent arrangement, though the linking is somewhat mechanical and the relationships between some ideas need clearer development. For instance, “Therefore” introduces the claim that fewer people visit Murree, but the preceding explanation does not establish that connection. In the Chitral paragraph, the shift from tourists filming residents to residents abandoning traditions is also abrupt. Use more precise referencing and explain these cause-and-effect links to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “local economies,” “natural habitat,” “tourist destinations,” “customs,” and “social norms.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and phrases such as “natural beauty” and “traditional culture” are relevant to the task. There are also some inaccurate or awkward choices that limit precision, including “over shadowed,” “view point,” and “diverse impacts.” Spelling errors such as “tradtitions” are noticeable, although the intended meaning remains understandable. Aim for more natural collocations and check compound words and spelling. A more precise vocabulary range would help you express the environmental and cultural effects with greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “individuals who leave their garbage” and a result clause beginning “As a result.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “tourism cause” should be “tourism causes,” “they have start abandoning” needs a corrected verb form, and “residents … doesn’t feel” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening also needs an article: “Tourism is a rapidly growing industry.” These issues do not generally prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Review agreement and verb forms, and proofread each sentence for complete, correctly formed clauses.
