Student answer (Band 5.0)

The one of the fastest growing industry in the world is tourism that have positive effect on the economy of that country. The tourist cannot ignore the environment they left behind when they leave the sight.

The tourism industry is in the boom. The people of different countries and also local people came at that spots to fresh their mind and relax themselves. For example, in country like Pakistan there are most beautiful and historical tourism spots such as Northern Area which is quite beautiful but the people who visit that places must able to clean that stuff which they bring with them. As you know if we don't clean our stuff and leave it their so next time when we visit that place there is no beauty left and you only see trash everywhere that also effect the local culture and lead toward different diseases.

The government should make the cleaning and safety department that can take care of all tourism spots and make it more beautiful. The higher authorities should give a certain amount of funds and keep the eye on them to reduce the correption so that those funds used on the cleaning and safety of that spots.

I am strongly agree that tourism industry give a great boom to the economy. It is the big resource for booming the GDP but we can't ignore the damage that tourism can cause and how much they pollute environment. So one thing that tourist can do to clean their environment is used trash bin rather than throwing it everywhere.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You take a position that tourism benefits the economy but that its environmental and cultural damage should not be ignored. The examples of litter at Pakistan’s Northern Areas and the need for government oversight are relevant to the topic. However, the response only partly develops the question: it focuses mainly on pollution and gives little explanation of how tourism affects local cultures, despite this being a central part of the prompt. The economic benefit is asserted through phrases such as “a great boom to the economy” and “booming the GDP,” but is not supported with a specific reason or example. To strengthen the response, explain the extent of your agreement directly and develop both the environmental and cultural effects with clearer supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to examples, proposed government action, and a concluding opinion. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, the progression between ideas is not consistently clear: the opening mentions economic benefits and environmental damage, while the body shifts between visitors, litter, disease, government funding, and GDP without fully connecting these points. Linking phrases such as “For example” and “So” are used, but relationships between claims are sometimes unclear, and the conclusion largely repeats earlier points. Organise the body around distinct reasons—such as environmental harm and cultural effects—and use clear topic sentences and references to show how each example supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “tourism industry,” “historical,” “environment,” “funds,” and “GDP,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning awkward: “fresh their mind,” “clean that stuff,” and “give a great boom” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also spelling errors, including “correption,” and repeated use of general words such as “beautiful,” “people,” and “spots.” Build a more precise range for discussing impacts, for example by using terms such as “litter,” “local traditions,” “conservation,” and “tourism revenue,” and check spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a conditional structure in “if we don't clean our stuff and leave it their so next time when we visit that place…”. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction can make the reader work to understand the message. Examples include “industry…that have,” “people…came,” “I am strongly agree,” and “tourist can do…is used.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, as in “The tourism industry is in the boom. The people…”. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea at a time, then check subject–verb agreement and verb forms before combining clauses.
