Student answer (Band 6.0)

Tourism business has become one of the fastest growing industries across the globe and it helps to contribute a great deal to economies. But, the damage caused by tourism can harm to local cultures and surrounding is ignored frequently. I firmly agree this opinion because it can pollute the natural environment and harm the local tradtional culture.

On the one hand, one major problem is that it can harm negatively local cultural norms and values. People especially foreign visitors came to tourist area with their own culture. So, traditional and cultural activites are changed to attract the tourists in many places to generate income. For instance, local communities may change their traditional dances to attract and generate income from tourists. As a result, it can cause to local culture negatively over time. Moreover, the arrival of large quantities of tourists can influence local styles to inspire and adapt foreign habits and cultures.

On the other hand, it can also cause serious environmental problems in many tourism areas. A large number of tourists can increase pollutions and produce many wastages and garbages. For instance, visitors who throw plastic bottles in natural areas like rivers, forests, then it can harm the living environment of animals and pollute the specific areas. Therefore, it can cause negatively to the habitants of both humans and other creatures.

In a conclusion, although this statement has many economical and financial benefits, I completely agree with this statement because it can impact to the environment and the norms and values of the local communities negatively. Moreover, government must give much priority to protect natural areas and local traditions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you firmly agree that tourism can damage both the environment and local culture, and the conclusion restates this view. You address both parts of the issue and give relevant examples, such as changes to traditional dances and plastic waste in natural areas. These examples help explain your main points, but some ideas are more fully developed than others. The cultural paragraph mentions visitors influencing local habits, yet the process and its consequences remain general; the environmental example could also explain more specifically how pollution affects communities or wildlife. To strengthen the response, develop each example with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation and connect it directly to the claim that this damage is often ignored.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on cultural and environmental effects, and a conclusion. The progression from one main concern to the other is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In a conclusion” make the organisation visible. However, some linking is mechanical, and several sentences repeat the same idea of harm without adding a distinct step in the argument. In the cultural paragraph, “So” and “As a result” connect points, but the reference in “it can cause to local culture” is not fully clear. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make pronouns refer unmistakably to a specific action or effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “local cultural norms and values,” “traditional dances,” “natural environment,” and “tourists.” This is enough to communicate the main ideas, and some choices show an attempt to be specific. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling reduce precision: “pollutions,” “wastages and garbages,” “tradtional,” and “tourist area” are problematic or unnatural forms. Phrases such as “harm negatively” and “cause negatively” also repeat an imprecise pattern. Aim to use fewer, more accurate expressions—for example, “pollution and litter” rather than a string of near-synonyms—and check spelling and countability when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “although,” and “who,” and your meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in sentence patterns and verb forms. For example, “I firmly agree this opinion” needs a grammatical construction such as “I firmly agree with this view,” while “visitors who throw plastic bottles … then it can harm” combines two sentence structures awkwardly. “It can cause to local culture” also has an incorrect verb pattern, and “government must give” needs an article or plural form. Practise accurate verb complements, clause construction, and articles; then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
