Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, tourism is increasingly becoming one of the fastest growing industries, and contributes a great deal to economies around the world. However, the distruction which tourism can cause to local culture and the invironment is often ignored. This essay will argue that, why tourism is one of the major contributors to economies around the world, and why some people ignore the damage which can caused by tourism to local culture and environment.
People are eager to visit new places nowadays, this is one of the reasons which make tourism popular. On the the other hand, when a country becomes attractive to tourists, this will nurish the local economy in many different ways, take flight journeys for instance, air-ports will become busier than before, also local markets will make a use of tourism, furthermore, the hotels and small inns will also take advantages of this condition. So, tourism will make the country grow faster than before and contribute a great deal to economies around the world.
On the other hand, some people argue that, the damage to local cultures and the environment which may result from tourism is often ignored. This ignorance may be an indirect consequence of the fact that tourism is mandatory to economy in some countries. For example, if the country relies mostly on tourism, the authorities may ignore the distruction caused by tourists. However, this type of damage especially to the local culture and the environment should never be ignored.
In conclusion, although tourism is one of the fastest growing industries and contributes a great deal to economies, yet, the distruction caused by tourism to local cultures and the environment should not be ignored.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response is relevant to tourism’s economic benefits and its potential harm to culture and the environment, and the conclusion clearly says that this damage should not be ignored. However, the position is not fully established: the introduction promises to explain why people ignore the damage, rather than directly stating how far you agree or disagree. The body gives a general economic example involving airports, markets and hotels, but offers little specific explanation or evidence about cultural or environmental harm. The discussion therefore addresses the topic only partially, with ideas that remain limited and under-developed. The response contains 236 words, below the 250-word minimum; 41 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop your position and support both sides of the discussion with specific examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: the response has an introduction, separate paragraphs on economic benefits and damage, and a conclusion. The reader can generally follow the main points, and phrases such as “On the other hand” signal a change in focus. However, progression is limited, and the repeated contrast markers do not always show a clear relationship between ideas. The first body paragraph strings together examples with “also” and “furthermore,” while the second moves quickly from economic dependence to authorities ignoring damage. Some links are awkward or unclear, including “This essay will argue that, why…”. To improve, organise each paragraph around one clear claim, explain it, and then connect a specific example to that claim rather than relying on repeated linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the general topic, with relevant terms such as “local culture,” “environment,” “authorities,” and “relies mostly on tourism.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy, including “distruction,” “invironment,” and “nurish.” Some combinations are also unnatural: “make a use of tourism” and “take advantages of this condition” do not express the intended ideas idiomatically. Repetition of “tourism,” “damage,” and “economy” further limits flexibility. Build a more precise set of topic-related expressions and check spelling and collocations. For example, you could describe tourism as “boosting local businesses” and its effects as “environmental degradation” or “pressure on local traditions.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentences and subordinate clauses, for example, “if the country relies mostly on tourism, the authorities may ignore…” This shows an effort to use more than simple sentence patterns. However, the range remains limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. In “This essay will argue that, why…,” the clause structure is incorrect; “the damage which can caused” is missing an auxiliary verb; and “People are eager to visit new places nowadays, this is…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma. There are also errors in articles and number, as in “to local culture and environment.” These frequent problems sometimes make the reader pause. Practise accurate clause construction, sentence boundaries, and article use before adding further complexity.
