Student answer (Band 6.0)

Tourism is one of the primary contributors to the economy of a country. It is also growing at a rapid pace thanks to the attention by respective governments of different countries around the world. Although it can casue damage to the local cultures and environment, I disagree with the opinion that this is being ignored as it also gives work and employment opportunities to the local people and increases awareness and popularity of local traditions and places among the people from different part of the world.

Tourism brings a lot more attention and therefore respect for the local cultures and beliefs to the outer world than the damage it brings. More people discover about the local history as well as food and attires, all of which would remain unexplored if not for tourism. Additionally, people can sell their popular local clothes, jewellery, food items and hence it creates ample of employment opportunities among the local people. Foreigners, who visit India and explore about the different local traditions or even dance styles often try to learn and take part in these rituals instead of disrepecting them.

Various countries like Sri Lanka largely depends on tourism for its economy. Nowadays, a lot of governments are aware about the benefits of tourism whether they are cultural or economical and because of this, they put a lot of efforts behind the scenes in making sure that it doesn't cause damage to the local environment and cultures. For example, India recently organized grand Kumbh Mela which had many tourists visiting it. The government precisely took care about the cleanliness and management of the huge crowd that was expected.

In comparison with potential dangers of tourism, there remain more benefits of it for both the local people as well as government. They are not ignored as can be seen by many examples like Kumbh Mela. Most of the governments of different countries are paying a lot of attention to the tourism and also most of the tourists repect the local cultures and traditions as they are of inclusive nature.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you disagree that tourism’s cultural and environmental damage is ignored, and you give relevant reasons involving employment, cultural awareness, and government management. The examples of Sri Lanka and the Kumbh Mela help connect your argument to real contexts. This meets the task well, and the discussion shows some of the development expected at a stronger level. However, the environmental side of the prompt receives little direct explanation: the Kumbh Mela example focuses on cleanliness and crowd management without showing how tourism’s wider environmental effects are addressed. Some claims, such as tourists generally respecting traditions, are also broad and would benefit from specific support. Develop both cultural and environmental impacts more evenly and explain how your examples prove your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from your position to cultural and economic benefits, then government action, and finally a conclusion. Paragraphing is appropriate, and linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “For example,” and “In comparison” help signal relationships between ideas. However, some connections are mechanical or imprecise. The final paragraph repeats the claim that tourism’s benefits outweigh its dangers without adding much synthesis, while “In comparison with potential dangers” does not clearly introduce the point that follows. References such as “they” in “They are not ignored” could also be clearer. To strengthen progression, make each paragraph advance a distinct part of the argument and use the conclusion to draw together the evidence rather than restating earlier claims.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “employment opportunities,” “local traditions,” “cleanliness,” and “management,” and your meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “behind the scenes” and “inclusive nature.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “attention by respective governments,” “discover about the local history,” and “creates ample of employment opportunities” do not sound natural. Spelling slips such as “casue,” “disrepecting,” and “repect” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. Replacing broad phrases like “a lot of attention” with specific terms would also make the argument more exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Although it can…” and a relative clause in “Foreigners, who visit India…”. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “Sri Lanka largely depends” should be “Sri Lanka largely depends” only if treating the country as singular, but the sentence’s subject is plural in “Various countries”; revise the construction to avoid this mismatch. In “people from different part,” the plural form “parts” is needed, and “a lot of governments … they put” creates an unclear sentence structure. There are also awkward article and preposition patterns, as in “learn and take part in these rituals.” Review agreement, plural forms, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use complex structures.
