Student answer (Band 6.0)

Tourism plays a prominent role in economies across the world. However, some people argue that tourism may trigger to cause damages to the local cultures and the environment. I partially agree to this statement because introducing eco-tourism can be a solution for this issue. This essay will discuss the damages that can be caused by tourism as well as how this problem can reach a solution.

Natured-based tourism is a deliriously popular industry that is growing at a very fast rate. In addition, many people find it very soothing and peaceful while visiting the nature. Most of the countries are giving their attention to expand tourism industries so that they can turn it into a major source of national income. As a result, many natural spots are being introduced and the percentage of tourists is rising day by day. The local people living surrounding the area are mostly affected by tourism, both in positive and negative ways. Firstly, they can build their source of income through tourism. For instance, tourism offers various kinds of job for them such as tourist guides, hotel management, local shop etc. On the other hand, most of the tourists tend to disobey the regulations of tourism and consequently the environment is polluted. They often show irresponsibility, as they throw waste direct into the nature. Moreover, infrastructural developments in the natured based areas also possess negative impact on the environment as well as the local people. For instance, many nature based tourist spots in Bangladesh such as are affected by the increasing number of tourists and their recklessness. Another example is that the wildlife of the largest mangrove forest in Bangladesh is significantly affected by the tourists. The number of wildlife is reducing which is a extremely concerning issue.

Nevertheless, introducing eco-tourism which ensures sustainability of nature and addresses the environmental concern can be a breakthrough in this problem. This will likely to solve the natural concerns as well as facilitate all sorts of opportunities for the tourists without causing harm to the nature.

In conclusion, tourism serves many opportunities for any country in terms of economic development. If eco-tourism can be maintained, both improvement in the livelihood of local people and conservation of the nature can be achievable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partially agree that tourism can harm cultures and the environment, while arguing that eco-tourism can reduce these effects. You address economic benefits, pollution, infrastructure and wildlife, and the Bangladesh examples make the discussion relevant. However, the response develops environmental damage much more fully than harm to local cultures; cultural effects are mentioned in the opening but not explained in the body. Some points also need clearer support: the claim that wildlife numbers are falling is not linked to a specific tourism impact, and the proposed eco-tourism solution is asserted rather than explained. Develop the cultural dimension and show how sustainable practices would address the harms you identify.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to the effects of tourism, then a proposed solution and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow this progression, and signposts such as “On the other hand,” “Nevertheless” and “In conclusion” make the main shifts visible. This organisation is effective, while some cohesion remains mechanical or unclear. For example, “This problem” and “the natural concerns” do not precisely identify which effects are being discussed, and the long body paragraph combines economic benefits, pollution, infrastructure and wildlife impacts. Separate or more clearly group these ideas, and use specific references to connect each example to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “national income,” “infrastructural developments,” “sustainability” and “conservation,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but some are inaccurate or unnatural: “Natured-based tourism,” “deliriously popular,” “build their source of income” and “throw waste direct into the nature.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less precise, even though the overall argument remains understandable. Aim for accurate collocations and natural word forms, and avoid repeating “nature” when “natural environment,” “ecosystem” or “wildlife habitat” would be more precise. Proofreading spelling and phrasing will also improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “so that” and “as.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “tourism may trigger to cause” has an incorrect verb pattern, “This will likely to solve” uses the wrong form after “will,” and “the wildlife … is significantly affected” is followed by “The number of wildlife is reducing,” where the noun phrase and verb form need attention. There are also issues with articles and agreement, as in “a extremely concerning issue.” Review verb patterns after modal verbs, countable and uncountable nouns, and article use. More accurate control of these structures would make your complex sentences clearer.
