Student answer (Band 6.5)
Tourism benefits the economy to a great extent, and its industry is growing at a high pace. However, it has negative consequences as it poses a threat to local cultures and damage the enviroment. In the following essay both of the view points will be discussed in great detail.
Tourism does benefit an economy, as it helps to create employment in the region which has positive implications. Employment leads to increase in the purchasing parity of individuals, which incrases the demands of goods and services in the country which subsequently benefits all the dependent industries by increasing production and then it flourishes. Further, tourism promotes exchange of culture and knolwedge. It encourages local people to learn and adopt avance technology and methods which can help them progress and benefit the economy in long term. As in, when tourists from developed regions visit underdeveloped regions for tourism, they may guide the individuals and help them by bringing in new technology and knowledge which can help them progress.
However, tourism may also produce threat to the local culture, as it can wipe out the local practices by proving it to be ancient and outdated. As due to tourism goverment of the country may impose certain regulation on practices of local inhabitants which threaten their cultures values and practices and not let them live freely and on their own terms. Eventually, this leads to creation of resentment and backlash from the indigenous. Moreover, to promote tourism goverments usually carry out activities that are not benefitting the locals and also harm enviroment in ways that are ignored. The increased pollution and urbanisation poses risk to the enviroment of the country leading to negative externalities to its people, and long term damage.
To conclude, tourism is good for the economy as it can produce employment and can bring in advance and technology due to cultural exchange. However, it can prove to be a risk if the goverment does not protect its people and their culture and the enviroment by imposing laws and rules. Therefore, I believe promoting responsible tourism is required where there is active involvement goverment by imposing the right laws and rules to ensure no local feels threatend, there cultural values and practices are intact, and there is little to no enviromental degradation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both the economic benefits and the potential cultural and environmental costs, and your conclusion gives a clear position: tourism should be promoted responsibly with government safeguards. The employment and spending chain is relevant, while the discussion of restrictions on local practices and pollution responds directly to the prompt. This meets the task well, and the recommendation adds a useful qualification. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. For example, the claim that visitors from developed regions may bring technology and guide local people is broad and would benefit from a specific example or explanation of how this exchange occurs. Likewise, the environmental effects are named but not illustrated. More precise support would make the argument more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and harms, and a conclusion that returns to your position. The progression from employment to increased demand and then to wider economic effects is easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “However,” “Moreover,” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the argument. Some connections are less smooth or precise, though. The opening promises that “both of the view points will be discussed,” which is a somewhat formulaic signpost, and the long economic explanation contains several linked claims that could be divided or connected more carefully. In the final sentence, the relationship between government action, cultural protection, and environmental safeguards is crowded. Clearer sentence-level organisation would strengthen the otherwise logical progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “employment,” “cultural exchange,” “indigenous,” “urbanisation,” and “negative externalities.” These choices show an effort to discuss economic, social, and environmental dimensions rather than relying only on basic terms. There are also several inaccurate or unnatural choices that reduce precision: “purchasing parity” does not express the intended rise in people’s spending power, “proving it to be ancient and outdated” is awkward for describing cultural practices, and “produce threat” is not a natural collocation. Spelling errors such as “enviroment,” “goverment,” and “knolwedge” also occur. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your ideas sound more natural and exact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including cause-and-effect clauses and subordinate clauses beginning with “as” and “which.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “Employment leads to increase” needs an article, and “the increased pollution and urbanisation poses” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In the conclusion, “there cultural values” should use a possessive form, while “there is active involvement goverment” is missing grammatical elements. Some sentences also become overloaded, particularly the long sentence about employment and dependent industries. Practise checking articles, agreement, possessives, and sentence boundaries, while keeping the complex structures you are attempting.
