Student answer (Band 6.0)

Around the world, majority of the countries have seen significant growth in tourism sector which have substantial impact on their economies. However, the local culture and environment is damaged by the tourists which is often ingnored. I completely agree with this statement because majority of the countries depend on the tourism sector economic impact.

Tourism world wide has significant impact on the economies. Both local community and the governments get benefits from the tourism. The bussinesses which are build around the tourism sector benefit the most from tourists and the money spent by the tourists have positive impact on the economy of a country, this in return make the government lineant towards the tourists as they bring so much economic growth. For example, most of the time the tourist spread garbage and cause traffic jams, which impact the local communities but the governments usually ignore theese things and let the tourist enjoy freely. The reason for this is to create an environment where tourist feel safe and can enjoy doing parties due to this more tourist come and the businesses boom.

Furthermore, the local residents are often targeted by the exessive tourists. They invade the privacy and disrespect the local cultures and communities. The communities also face expensive rents due to high demand from the tourists. Due to these reasons locals protest to the government however, the government in this regard do little to nothing to help the local and protect the environment. For example, the tourist often organize rave parties in the forests which is so harmful to the animals and also these parties often cause huge fires in the woods. However, most of the time the foreigners get away with the damage due to the high privileges they get and importance from the govenrment as they spend alot of money in the growth of a particular company.

In conclusion, the tourists around the world have additional privileges which is the reason why they get away with most of the damage they cause to locals and to the environment. I believe governments should enforce strict policies and additional penalties to protect the locals and the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that tourism’s economic importance can lead authorities to overlook harm to residents, culture and nature. You address both local impacts and environmental damage, and the examples of forest parties, fires, litter and traffic make the discussion relevant. This meets the task well, while the response shows some of the fuller development expected at a stronger level. However, the opening says you agree because countries depend on tourism’s economic impact, which does not clearly explain why this means damage is ignored. The point about expensive rents is also introduced but not developed. Explain the cause-and-effect links more precisely and extend each example with a specific consequence or context.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs generally group related points, and signposts such as “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the direction. Overall progression is coherent, though connections between some claims are not always clear. For instance, the first body paragraph moves from economic benefits to litter and traffic, then to parties and business growth without fully explaining each link. Repeated use of “due to” also makes the reasoning feel mechanical. Use clearer referencing and vary the transitions, while ensuring each paragraph develops one central point in a logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “local cultures,” “privacy,” “expensive rents,” “traffic jams” and “strict policies,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “economic growth” and “additional privileges.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or awkward combinations reduce accuracy: “ingnored,” “bussinesses,” “exessive,” and “govenrment” are examples, while “the tourist spread garbage” and “government lineant towards the tourists” are not natural choices. Build a more reliable range of collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms for impacts and government responses would help express your argument with greater control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “which,” “however” and “because,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. Some sentence patterns are effective, such as the explanation that residents face higher rents because of tourist demand. However, errors in agreement, articles and sentence boundaries recur. For example, “the local culture and environment is damaged” has a plural subject, and “Around the world, majority of the countries” needs an article. The long sentence beginning “The businesses which are build…” joins several ideas with commas, making the structure difficult to control. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and divide long sentences into clearer units.
