Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response recognises both the economic value of tourism and its possible environmental costs, and it offers a position that tourism should continue alongside protective rules. However, the task asks whether damage to local cultures and the environment is often ignored, and the essay focuses almost entirely on pollution and global warming. The effect on local traditions and communities is not discussed, while the claim that tourism is important to countries is repeated rather than developed with a specific example. The position is also not fully clear: the opening introduces the issue, but the conclusion-like ending suggests the harm is caused by people’s attitudes rather than tourism itself. Address both kinds of damage and explain how far you agree.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting tourism’s benefits, and a paragraph on environmental drawbacks. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all” and “Second of all” help signal the main sections. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow because several ideas are joined into long sentences, and the links between them are not always clear. For example, the discussion moves from historical travel methods to modern transport and then to countries becoming wealthy without explaining each connection. “So” and “which” are also used repeatedly to connect points, sometimes awkwardly. Use clearer topic sentences, divide long chains of ideas into separate sentences, and make each paragraph develop one central point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The essay uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “global warming,” “environment,” “factories,” and “traditions,” so the reader can identify the main subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. Examples include “environmental defects,” “huge number revenue,” and “the people of now”; these do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also frequent spelling errors, such as “industury,” “countinously,” and “beautifull.” Build a more precise set of phrases for discussing tourism’s economic, cultural, and environmental effects, and check spelling carefully. More accurate collocations would make the argument easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “which” and conditional forms such as “If we make the hard rules.” However, these attempts are often faulty, and many sentences contain errors that make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. For instance, “It is a countinously increasing industry which is very important” is a fragment following the previous sentence, while “it also have some negative aspects” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. Tense and sentence construction are also inconsistent in “when they had to travel … to the modern cars.” Punctuation frequently creates run-on sentences, especially where full stops are needed instead of commas. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check agreement, tense, and sentence boundaries.
