Student answer (Band 6.5)

With the current global shift in economy, tourism is playing a pivotal role. However, there are significant damages to local cultures and the environment from this rapid industrial growth. I agree that these damages are overwhelming and should not be ignored.

Although tourism is generating huge revenue in economy, local cultures and environment are suffering a great deal. On the cultural point of view, tourism may lead to a sense of underdevelopment. This is because tourists may be dressed in some fancy way or might carry some advanced gadgets like new laptops or mobile phones that seem to be from highly developed nations. As a result, the local people will try to adapt this unfamiliar culture and incorporate it into their own, leading to the loss of their original culture and identity.

On the environmental point of view, tourism might exacerbate the case of pollution and global warming. When foreign visitors enter a country, they carry with them some papers or food items that can be disposed inappropriately. These items can ellicit an unintended changes for instance, when papers get burned in an open place resulting in uncontrolable smoke that contributes to an overall carbondioxide emission and eventually, pollution; or a foreign piece of seed droped on the ground that affect the entire composition of the soil.

Ultimately, tourism is a fundamental part of any economical growth, However, due to undeniable effects of cultural harm and foreign items that could definitly lead to unwarranted cultural integrations as well as pollution, this matter requires absolute global attention.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that tourism’s cultural and environmental damage should not be ignored. You address both parts of the issue and give relevant explanations, including how visitors’ lifestyles may influence local identity and how discarded materials could affect pollution or soil. These examples show a relevant response, but some claims are not fully explained or are presented as likely outcomes without enough support. For instance, the link between tourists’ clothing or gadgets and a local “sense of underdevelopment” needs clearer reasoning, and the environmental examples could be made more realistic and specific. The conclusion restates your view but does not add much synthesis. Develop the cause-and-effect reasoning and support it with a concrete example to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on cultural and environmental effects, and a concluding paragraph. Topic sentences such as “On the cultural point of view” and “On the environmental point of view” help readers follow the two main strands. You also use linking expressions, including “As a result” and “Ultimately,” to show relationships between ideas. At times, however, the progression within a paragraph is less smooth: the cultural paragraph moves from visitors’ possessions to cultural loss without fully explaining the steps, while the environmental paragraph combines several examples in a long sentence. Some transitions feel formulaic. Use clearer links between each claim and its consequence, and divide the environmental explanation into shorter, logically ordered sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “pivotal role,” “local cultures,” “global warming,” “pollution,” and “cultural identity.” There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “exacerbate” and “unwarranted cultural integrations,” though some choices are inaccurate or unnatural in context. For example, “a sense of underdevelopment” does not clearly express the cultural effect you intend, and “foreign items” is too vague for the conclusion. Spelling errors such as “ellicit,” “uncontrolable,” “carbondioxide,” “droped,” and “definitly” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling carefully; choosing familiar, exact terms will make your argument clearer than using ambitious wording that does not quite fit.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “When foreign visitors enter a country” and a result clause beginning “As a result.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are noticeable. In “These items can ellicit an unintended changes,” the article and plural noun do not agree; the long sentence beginning “These items can…” also has an unclear structure and would be easier to follow if divided. In the conclusion, “However” is incorrectly capitalised after a comma, and the sentence joins several ideas without clear punctuation. Review article–noun agreement, sentence boundaries, and punctuation in longer sentences. More consistent control would make your complex ideas easier to read.
