Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, tourism is surging faster than ever before and considerably generate a revenue for various countries. However, it is widely believed that irregulated and uncontrolled tourism has a negative influence on both local culture and environment of a society. This essay will discuss these in-detail here.
Tourism contributes significantly to the GDP of numerous countries including Turkey, India and Thailand. Tourism helps to explore different cultures, developing cross cultural values and a sense of appreciation for different nations. There are some negative consequences of tourism on local environment, if not controlled properly. A large population of tourists from different backgrounds may pose a considerable threat to the local biodiversity of an ecosystem. For instances, Thialand suffered from significant lost of marine population due to the excessive tourists' activities. After a ban of few years, these seashores and beaches started to recover themselves. So, there is a need to keep a very close eye on these human activities to protect natural ecosystem.
In addition, when foreigns from different nations and backgrounds visit diverse cultures, they effect them in different ways. For instance, English women wearing short dresses, such as skirts and jeans, may affect the Islamic culture of Pakistan and Afganistan. Similarly, Indian women used to wear traditional dresses such as sahri and kurta but they have largely influenced by different cultures. These Indian women now prefer modern skirts and pants instead of their traditional clothes, taking them far away from their cultural values.
In conclusion, tourism plays a crucial role in various countries' GDP and growing very rapidly. However, this activity is associated with significant harms and dangers to the local ecosystem, and biodiversity. In addition, foreign cultures may also negatively influence the cultural values of a country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both the economic value of tourism and its possible effects on the environment and culture, and your overall view is clear: tourism can cause harm if it is not controlled. The examples of marine life in Thailand and changing clothing preferences in India help make the discussion relevant. However, the economic point is mainly stated rather than developed, and the cultural example focuses on clothing without explaining in depth how this represents broader cultural damage. The claim about visitors’ clothing affecting Islamic culture is also generalised and would benefit from careful qualification or a more specific example. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanisms and consequences of each effect, and make your degree of agreement explicit in the introduction and conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on environmental and cultural effects, and a conclusion. This makes the main line of discussion easy to follow, and transitions such as “In addition” and “In conclusion” signal the stages of the essay. The organisation is coherent, but some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. For example, “This essay will discuss these in-detail here” does not preview the argument precisely, while the shift from tourism’s economic contribution to environmental harm could be connected more explicitly. The examples also need clearer links back to the central claim. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main point, then explain how the example supports it; vary linking expressions and use pronouns with clear references.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “GDP,” “biodiversity,” “ecosystem,” and “cultural values,” and several choices communicate the subject clearly. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “contributes significantly” and “considerable threat.” However, some word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce precision: “irregulated,” “significant lost,” “foreigns,” and “suffered from… marine population” are not natural or accurate in context. “Surging faster than ever before” and “harms and dangers” are also less precise than the ideas require. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling, especially in examples. More precise language for cultural change and environmental pressure would help you express the argument without relying on broad claims.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including conditional phrasing in “if not controlled properly” and a relative clause in “tourists… may pose a considerable threat.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “tourism… considerably generate” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “they have largely influenced” needs a passive form such as “have been largely influenced.” There are also issues with articles and number in phrases such as “the local environment” and “a ban of few years.” Some sentence structures are awkward, particularly “when foreigns… visit diverse cultures, they effect them.” Practise agreement, passive constructions, articles, and clause structure, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
