Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both the economic benefits and the possible harm to culture and the environment, and you give relevant examples, including tourism-related jobs and damage to Sri Lankan historical sites. However, the position is difficult to follow: the opening says “I partly agree,” but the sentence before it is unclear, and the conclusion mainly repeats the prompt rather than restating your view. Several points are listed without enough explanation—for example, how tourism affects traditions or how government measures would reduce harm. To strengthen the response, state clearly whether you agree that these costs are ignored, then develop each main reason with a specific explanation or example. The response meets the required length; 84 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with separate paragraphs for economic benefits, negative effects, possible solutions and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the main topics. However, progression within paragraphs is often unclear, and linking expressions are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive. For instance, “Whereas” does not connect the opening ideas correctly, while repeated “In addition,” “So,” and “Moreover” make the argument feel like a list. Some references are also unclear, such as “The can allocate policies,” where the subject is difficult to identify. Use fewer, more precise connectors and organise each paragraph around one central claim, followed by explanation and an example. A clearer link between the proposed government action and the harms discussed would also improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “foreign currencies,” “biodiversity,” “historical places,” and “air pollution.” These choices show an attempt to discuss economic, cultural and environmental effects. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “tourism people,” “improve tourist guides,” “a damage,” and “male a lot of air pollution”; the intended meanings are not always immediately clear. Spelling errors such as “oppurtunities,” “exchane,” and “resouces” also reduce accuracy. Build a bank of natural topic phrases, such as “create employment,” “damage heritage sites,” and “generate pollution,” and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including examples beginning “While” and “Not only that,” and you use some subordinate clauses to explain consequences. However, many sentences contain errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, articles or plurals, which sometimes make the meaning hard to follow. For example, “tourism can cause to local cultures and the environment is often damaged” combines structures incorrectly, and “many tourist are used to throwing rubbish” has an agreement error. The opening sentence is also difficult to interpret because its clauses are not joined correctly. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add one subordinate clause at a time. Proofread for agreement and complete sentence structure, especially when using contrast words such as “whereas” and “while.”
