Student answer (Band 6.0)

Tourism is repidly growing industry nowadays, creating a great revenue worldwide. While some people argue that the drawbacks of tourism are largely neglected. I strongly agree that the damage of tourism is overlooked by authorities due to its financial benefits.

Tourism causes all of harm to environment. A large number of tourists visit places such as beaches or mountains. They throw a lot of garbage there such as plastic bottles or food packaging. Consiquently, there will be a large amount of environmental pollution. As authorities do not spend money to clean that places, it will cause permanent damage to such places. Additionally, people are opening hotels near tourist destinations. It destroys the natural habitats. Its perfect example can be seen in Thiland where a lot of marine habitate has been destroyed due to human activities.

Tourism is damaging the local culture and traditions. The traditional rituals such as dances present to entertain tourists just to make income. It is really disrespecting for any culture. Moreover, historic places use as rental properties. Authorities depand heavy amount of rents of these places which are really expensive for local people. In result, majority of people compelled to leave their home town. For instance in Andron Lahore alot of local residents leave their hometown due to the same reason.

In conclusion, tourism is growing fastly around the world and despite its financial benefits there are a lot of drawbacks of tourism. I strongly agree that the harmful effects of tourism are neglected by government because of financial benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you strongly agree that tourism’s harmful effects are overlooked because of its financial benefits. You address both environmental damage, such as litter and habitat loss, and cultural or social effects, including performances adapted for tourists and residents being priced out of historic areas. These examples are relevant and give the response a clear focus. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that authorities do not fund clean-ups and the example of marine habitats in Thailand would be stronger with a clearer explanation or specific detail. The discussion of cultural traditions also needs to distinguish more clearly between cultural change and disrespect. More developed support would make the argument more convincing and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs cover environmental and cultural impacts, and a conclusion restates your position. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. You also use signposting such as “Additionally,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” to connect points. At times, however, the links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “As authorities do not spend money to clean that places” does not clearly establish whether this is a general pattern or a consequence of tourism. The examples are sometimes added without enough explanation, and references such as “It” in “It destroys the natural habitats” could be more precise. Clearer links between claims, explanations, and examples would improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “environmental pollution,” “natural habitats,” “traditional rituals,” and “historic places,” so the reader can understand the main issues. There are also attempts to express more specific ideas, such as tourism-related rents and marine habitat loss. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “repidly,” “Consiquently,” “habitate,” and “depand.” Some combinations are unnatural or unclear, such as “causes all of harm,” “a great revenue,” and “rental properties” for historic places used as accommodation. Repeated general words such as “a lot” and “damage” also limit variety. Aim to learn accurate topic collocations and check spelling, while choosing words that express the intended relationship precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a subordinate clause beginning “While some people argue…” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “As authorities…”. This shows some range, but control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns are faulty. “While some people argue that the drawbacks of tourism are largely neglected” is a fragment because it is not joined to a main clause. Other examples include “A large number of tourists visit places” followed by “They throw…” without a clear link to the broader claim, and “majority of people compelled to leave,” which lacks a finite verb. Articles, agreement, and sentence construction also need attention, as in “It is really disrespecting for any culture.” Practise complete clauses and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
