Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, a large number of people are interested in travelling to other countries and learning about their history and traditions. Furthermore, this helps in improving the GDp and creating employment opportunities. Tourism has become one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, and its play an significant role in the economic development of many countries. However, some people believe that its negative effects of local cultures and the environment are often overlooked. I completely agree with this statement because mass tourism can damage nature places and negatively affect traditional lifestyles.

On the one hand, tourism provide several economic benefits. Firstly, it creates job opportunities for local poeple in hotels, restaurants, transport and shopping centres. Moreover, international tourists bring money into the country, which helps small businesses and improves the living standards of residents. For example, in india, places such as Goa, Mumbai, Agra and Jaipur attract millions of tourists from all over the world every year, which support local shops, accommodations and travel companies. In addition, international visitors are really fascinated about learning about their history and traditions. As a outcome, they heired the local guide who share the information about those place, which help to earn some international money.

On the other hand, tourism can causes serious enviornmental problems. A large number of visitors produce plastic waste, increase pollution and damage natural areas. For instance, popular beaches and hill stations often become polluted because tourists leave rubbish behind. Furthermore, the constructions of hotels and resorts can destroy forests and distrub wildlife. These problem may have long term effects on the environment.

Another important issue si the loss of local culture and traditions. When a place receives too many visitors, local people sometimes change their traditional lifestyles to satisfy foreign visitors. Traditional food, clothing and festivals may gradually become commercial activities. As a result, the original identity of the community can be weakened. For example, some traditional markets and cultural festivals are changed mainly to attract foreign visitors.

In conclusion, although tourism makes a valuable contribution to the economy and creates job employment, I strongly agree that its negative effects on the enviornment and local cultures are often ignored. Therefore, governments should promote responsible tourism and introduce strict rules to protect natural and cultural heritage.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you strongly agree that tourism’s environmental and cultural costs are often overlooked, while acknowledging its economic benefits. You address both harms and support them with relevant examples, including pollution at beaches, resort construction, and cultural festivals becoming commercialised. The economic paragraph also recognises employment and income for local businesses. This gives the response a clear, relevant argument. To develop it further, explain the mechanisms or consequences in more depth: for example, specify how visitor pressure damages a particular natural area, or how commercialisation changes a community’s traditions. Some examples, such as the list of Indian cities, are broad rather than closely tied to the point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: the introduction states your view, the body paragraphs cover economic benefits and then environmental and cultural costs, and the conclusion restates your position and offers a response. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Within paragraphs, however, some links feel mechanical or the relationship between sentences is not fully clear. For instance, “As a outcome” introduces a guide-related point that is not smoothly connected to the preceding claim about small businesses. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph’s central idea explicit and using clearer references and transitions between supporting details.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “employment opportunities,” “living standards,” “wildlife,” “traditional lifestyles,” and “cultural heritage.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and you attempt more specific expressions such as “commercial activities.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “nature places,” “fascinated about learning,” “they heired the local guide,” and “job employment.” Spelling and word-form slips such as “enviornmental,” “distrub,” and “accommodations” also reduce precision. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully; more accurate phrasing would make your vocabulary sound more natural without requiring unnecessarily complex words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “when.” Most of the argument remains understandable, and the concluding sentence combines a concession with your position effectively. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms: “its play an significant role,” “tourism provide,” “tourism can causes,” and “the constructions of hotels” are examples. The sentence beginning “As a outcome” also has unclear grammatical relationships between the guide, the information, and the earnings. Review agreement and article use, and check that each clause has a clear subject and correctly formed verb. This will improve accuracy while preserving your range of structures.
