Student answer (Band 6.0)
Tourism is ubdoubtedly one of the growing industries, which plays a crucial role in enhancing the economies of the world. While its economic benefits are widely celebrated, I believe that its negative impacts on environment and local culture are overlooked by local communities and government in pursuit of financial gains.
Firstly, tourism causes environmental damage. Popular destiations are often flooded with visitors leading to pollution, deforestation, and waste. People usually throw the wrappers and plastic bottles in open areas. They do not bother to destroy plants and flowers. For instance, the valleys of Azad Kashmir lile neelum valley were once pristine but after expansion of tourism in these areas has put it in peril of paralysis. The areas are covered with plastic bottles, hotel waste, and traffic congestion.
Secondly, tourism can erode the local culture. When a place becomes a tourist hotspot, local people usually change their lifestyle, food, and even language to impress the visitors. For example, many local shopkeepers in muntain areas of Pakistan have replaced selling traditional handicrafts to souvenirs. As a result, young people lose their interest in native language and culture and so their identity disappears.
This can be improved in many possible ways. The foremost solution is the design of legislation for tourism department. There should be proper set up to look after tourist places liking watch guards or cameras. There should be proper sewage system od hotels and sewage water should be discarded in far areas. There should be introduction of bins for dumping wrappers and plastic materials.
The other way is to promote local culture more and more to the foreigners. The native people should be encouraged and educated about their identity. These are some of the solutions that detrimental effectes of tourism can be lessened.
In conclusion, tourism has damaged environment and local culture. Despite economic gains, the negative impacts of this industry have been ignored. Government should promote sustainable tourism, limit the number of visitors and protect local heritage for future generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree that tourism’s environmental and cultural costs are overlooked despite its economic benefits. You address both impacts and offer relevant examples, including litter and congestion in Neelum Valley and the replacement of traditional handicrafts with souvenirs. The conclusion also gives a clear overall view. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that young people lose interest in their language and identity would be stronger with a clearer link to tourism or a specific illustration. The proposed measures are relevant, but their likely effectiveness is not discussed. Develop the cause-and-effect reasoning and support each main point more fully to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, moving from environmental damage to cultural effects, then solutions and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these main stages, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression apparent. Some connections, however, feel mechanical, and the solutions paragraph lists measures without grouping or explaining how they relate to the earlier problems. A few references are also unclear, such as “These are some of the solutions that detrimental effectes of tourism can be lessened,” where the relationship between the solutions and the effects is difficult to follow. Use more precise linking and reference, and organise each paragraph around a developed central point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “deforestation,” “pristine,” “local heritage,” and “sustainable tourism,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “tourist hotspot” and “financial gains.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “ubdoubtedly,” “destiations,” “lile,” and “muntain.” Some combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “peril of paralysis” and “design of legislation for tourism department,” and “destroy plants” does not express the intended harm naturally. Check spelling carefully and choose collocations that fit the meaning; this will make your vocabulary more accurate and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a relative clause in the opening and a conditional-style sentence beginning “When a place becomes a tourist hotspot.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “after expansion of tourism in these areas has put it in peril” has an incomplete or confused clause structure, while “There should be proper set up” and “There should be introduction” are missing appropriate grammatical forms. The sentence about solutions beginning “These are some of the solutions that…” is also not constructed clearly. Practise accurate articles, noun phrases, and clause structure, and proofread sentence boundaries and punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
