Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and made relevant comparisons between the two time periods and the two sexes. You covered all age groups and highlighted the key differences in licence holding. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant trends, such as the general increase in licence holders for women across all age groups compared to the relative stability for men. Additionally, some data points are slightly imprecise or confusingly phrased, such as the reference to 'the English-speaking nation of Great Britain' (which is a region, not a nation) and the inconsistent reporting of specific percentages. To improve, ensure your overview clearly synthesizes the most striking differences between the two years.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction followed by body paragraphs focusing on men and women respectively. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'Similarly' to link ideas. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as when you refer to 'the age group' without specifying which one or which year. The use of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the flow between sentences. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the internal cohesion needs more refinement to reach a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'percentage', 'licensed drivers', and 'age groups'. However, there are some repetitive word choices, such as the frequent use of 'highest number of license holders' and 'least amount of license holders'. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'English-speaking nation of Great Britain' and 'licnese' (spelling error). To improve, try to use more varied synonyms for 'highest' and 'lowest' and ensure you are using precise terminology for statistical data, such as 'proportion' instead of 'number' when discussing percentages.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Age group of 21-29 has higher numbers') and article usage (e.g., 'had the least amount of license holders'). There are also some inconsistencies in tense usage when describing the data. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent use of articles and pluralization when discussing data points.
