Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task requirements by identifying main features and making comparisons. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision in reporting data. For instance, the reference to '1975/75' is confusing, and the description of the trends is fragmented. While you have selected key data points, the overall summary lacks a clear, cohesive overview of the trends over time. To improve, ensure you clearly distinguish between the two years (1975/76 and 2006) and provide more accurate comparisons between the age groups and genders rather than listing isolated figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow between sentences is often mechanical and lacks sophisticated cohesive devices. Phrases like 'On the other hand' are used, but the logical progression within paragraphs is weak. Some sentences feel disconnected, and the referencing (e.g., 'the masses') is repetitive and unnatural in an academic context. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The use of the word 'masses' is inappropriate for this context; 'proportion of the population' or 'percentage of individuals' would be much more accurate. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'licensee holder' and 'sex group', which sound unnatural. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band score. You should focus on using more academic terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the masses that has'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing ('it’s between mens and women'). The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing and the use of slashes. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for minor slips in articles and pluralisation.
