Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered both age groups and gender comparisons effectively. However, the report lacks precision in some areas; for instance, you mention '1975 and 1976' in the overview, but the graph only provides data for 1975/76 and 2006. Additionally, some data points are slightly inaccurate or confusingly presented, such as the grouping of '60-61' which does not match the graph categories. To improve, ensure you clearly distinguish between the two years provided and group the data more logically to highlight the most significant changes rather than listing every single figure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use transition signals like 'Overall', 'Firstly', and 'Secondly' to guide the reader. However, the cohesion within the paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'Either groups of ages 30-39, 40-49 were holding less than 90% in 1976, in 2006'. The flow between sentences could be improved by using more varied cohesive devices rather than relying on lists of percentages. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the data by gender.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey the information, using terms like 'proportion', 'fluctuated', and 'spurted up'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'vehicle running licences' instead of 'driving licences' and 'men were accounted higher proportion' instead of 'men accounted for a higher proportion'. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, which occasionally hinders the precision of your report. Expanding your range of reporting verbs and noun phrases would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the 17-20 age men groups'), prepositions, and subject-verb agreement ('women ratio improved'). There are also some issues with tense consistency and word order. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring correct sentence construction will be beneficial.
