Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. While you identify key trends, there are inaccuracies in the data reporting (e.g., mentioning 1975 instead of 1976). The overview is present but lacks a clear synthesis of the most significant trends, such as the narrowing gap between genders over time. Some age groups are described in detail, while others are omitted, leading to an unbalanced summary. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe dates from the prompt and provide a more comprehensive overview that highlights the most striking differences between the two years across all age brackets.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Initially' and 'On the other hand' to signal shifts in focus. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the comparison between years is confusingly phrased. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother and more naturally connected.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'bifurcated', and 'significant rise'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'men's do have' and 'the number of 70 years old or older men... has become twice of it'. These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and grammatical forms of nouns and adjectives. Expanding your repertoire of descriptive verbs and adverbs to describe trends would also enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex forms, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('men's do have') and incorrect preposition usage ('in the both the years'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors with capitalization and phrasing. The errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining the structure of comparative sentences to ensure they are grammatically sound.
