Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the development of the task. While you have identified some main features, such as the peak age groups in 2006 and the contrast with 1975, the analysis is underdeveloped. Several key trends are missing, and the comparison between the two years is not fully explored. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview and include more specific data points to support your observations. The under-length nature of the response prevents a higher score, as the task is not fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'In contrast' and 'In 2006'. The logical progression between sentences is occasionally disrupted by grammatical errors, making the flow feel disjointed. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'conversely', 'meanwhile') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data comparison.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic phrasing like 'share', 'percentage', and 'holding'. There are also issues with word formation and collocation, such as 'smilier' (likely meant 'similar') and 'second ranked aged'. The range of vocabulary is just adequate to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more varied terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'figure', 'peak', 'decline', and 'fluctuate'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with verb forms and sentence structure. Examples include 'aged 30-59 had largest percentage who car driving licence holders' and 'women had smallest share who holding driving license'. These errors often impede the clarity of your sentences. You rely mostly on simple structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring you have a clear subject and verb in every clause, and practice using articles and prepositions correctly.
