Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by identifying main features and making comparisons. However, the data interpretation is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the claim that 'youngest men have highest number' in 2006 is not supported by the graph, and the description of the 1975 data is inconsistent. The summary of trends is somewhat muddled, and the lack of clarity in reporting specific figures hinders the overall achievement. To reach a higher band, ensure that the data points cited accurately reflect the visual information provided and focus on clear, distinct trends rather than listing numbers that are difficult to follow.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused (e.g., 'Apart from this', 'While'). The progression of ideas is sometimes illogical, particularly when moving between age groups and years. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to determine which data point is being discussed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly improve the flow of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'number' and 'have'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'young-oldest citizen' and 'very lowest'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the reliance on simple phrasing restrict the score. To improve, try to incorporate more varied vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'fluctuate', or 'remain stable', and focus on using these words in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Men has', 'graphs illustrates'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence structures. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are often faulty, which can occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency would also be highly beneficial.
