Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response provides an overview and attempts to report key features, but it is incomplete as the text cuts off abruptly at the end. While the main trends are identified, the analysis of the data is inconsistent. For instance, the statement that men aged 21-29 had 50% in 2006 is inaccurate based on the provided graph, and the comparison between years is sometimes confusing. The response fails to fully develop the comparison between age groups and genders due to the unfinished nature of the writing. To improve, ensure all data points are accurately transcribed and the summary is completed fully.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete final sentence. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'In detail', but the internal logic within the body paragraph is weak. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two time periods. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending significantly disrupts the overall flow and coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'men had considerable percentage' and 'moderately hold licence'. The student attempts to use academic vocabulary, but the word choice is often imprecise or grammatically incorrect in context. Spelling is generally accurate, but the limited range and frequent collocation errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on more precise descriptors for trends and data comparisons would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'percentage of driving licence holders recorded in males' (passive voice error) and 'begun from nearly 70% and e' (incomplete sentence). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is noticeable and occasionally causes difficulty for the reader. A greater focus on sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is required.
