Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the task by identifying key trends, such as the increase in licence holders over time. However, the data interpretation is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the claim that 'mid age male and female has the least car driving licence holders' contradicts the provided graph, which shows the highest percentages in the 30-49 and 50-59 age brackets. Additionally, the grouping of data is inconsistent, and the comparison between 1975 and 2006 is difficult to follow due to imprecise reporting of figures. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that the overview clearly reflects the main trends shown in the visual.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'Secondly' and 'although', which do not logically connect the ideas. The referencing is also unclear; for instance, the phrase 'both ages steadily increasing' is vague. The flow of information is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two time periods. Improved use of linking words and clearer paragraph transitions would significantly enhance the logical progression of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'ratio', 'share', and 'proportion'. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'women section' and 'teenage from 17 to 20'. The student attempts to describe trends but lacks the precision required for Task 1, often using incorrect terminology to describe the movement of data points. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary related to describing trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'peak', 'gradual increase', and 'significant decline'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include incorrect verb tenses, missing articles, and faulty sentence construction (e.g., 'the adults age of men and women have the highest proportion'). Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing and incorrect use of slashes and commas. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are often inaccurate. The student needs to focus on basic sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and consistent punctuation to improve the overall accuracy of the writing.
