Full car driving licence holders: by sex and age
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Driving licences are demonstrated in the graph with the percentage of people holding by age and sex in Great Britain. Men seem to overpower the graph compared to women throughout the period of time.
From the graphical representation, we can observe that the data are presented in two categories; in 1975/76 and in 2006. The teenager group around 17-18 have similar data in those two periods of categories around 39 whereas in women there is some difference in change within 5% from 1975/76. Furthermore, in aged group of 21-29 have proportional change between women and men lies between 80 to 60 range over the period of time. Additionally, for 30-39 its level out in men section around 82 but in women there is significant change approximately 40 to 80. Moreover, the public of 40-49 and 50-59 have the similar change rising in 2006 compared to 1975/76 reaching above 80 in men section but under 80 in women section. At last, the individuals of age 60-69 is level out as pervious aged group people and 70 or over 70 decline under 80 similar to women that lies comparatively less below 30.
Overall, the graph concludes that the men had been more successful over the licences in Great Britain by age and sex through the interval of time .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the general trend of men holding more licences than women and the age-related patterns. However, the reporting of data is often imprecise and confusing. For instance, stating 'teenager group around 17-18 have similar data... around 39' is unclear, and the description of the 21-29 age group as '80 to 60 range' lacks clarity regarding which sex is which. While the main trends are identified, the lack of precision in data reporting and the failure to clearly contrast the two years (1975/76 vs 2006) across all age groups limits the effectiveness of the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or awkward, such as 'At last' and 'in men section'. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the two time periods. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when comparing the two genders, which forces the reader to work harder to understand the intended meaning. Improved use of linking words and clearer referencing would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. Phrases like 'overpower the graph' and 'level out in men section' are not natural collocations for describing statistical data. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'change' and 'group'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of more sophisticated or precise terminology (e.g., 'proportion', 'significant increase', 'gap') prevents the response from reaching a higher band. The word choice is functional but often imprecise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'the data are presented in two categories; in 1975/76 and in 2006' (punctuation/preposition error) and 'the public of 40-49 and 50-59 have the similar change' (article and word choice errors). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and awkward phrasing, such as 'the individuals of age 60-69 is level out'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable throughout the text.
