Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the data, identifying trends for both genders across the age groups. However, the reporting is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of the 1975/76 data is fragmented, and the comparison between the two periods could be more precise. While the main trends are highlighted, some data points are presented in a way that is difficult to follow, such as the list of percentages for women. To improve, ensure that comparisons are clearly linked to specific years and age groups, and avoid listing data without sufficient analytical context.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Second, men are the one having more license ratio'. The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. The concluding sentence is somewhat redundant as it comments on the graph rather than summarizing the data. Improving the flow between sentences using a wider range of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'flare up' and 'deminishing trend'. The student attempts to use specific terminology, but the control is inconsistent. Spelling errors like 'devided' and 'pecentage' also detract from the quality of the writing. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring correct collocations when describing trends and data points.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('men are the one'), article usage, and punctuation. For example, 'as got the age over 70' is grammatically incorrect and impedes clarity. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is noticeable. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve the score in this criterion.
