The graphs below show the percentage of people holding full driving licences in Great Britain by age and sex.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Full car driving licence holders: by sex and age

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The bar chart compares the percentages of men and women in Great Britain who held a full car driving licence across seven age froups in 1975/76 and 2006.

Overall, the proportion of licence jolders increased for both genders over the period, with the most significant growth occuring among women. Men consistently recorded higher percentages than women, although the gender gap narrowed considerably by period of time.

Among men, licence ownership was alredy relatively high in 1975/76, particularly in the 30-49 age groups, where around 80-905 possessed a licence. By 2006, these figures had risen slightly, with almost 90% if men aged between 30 and 59 holding a driving licence. The youngest group also experienced a moderate increase, while the percentage among those aged 70 and over climbed from roughly 35% to around 60%.

For women, the driving licence had escalated between 17 to 20 ages and 40 to 49 ages, accounted with around 20% to 80% at all. The least of proportion had in elder women, considered with approximately 23% only.
