Student answer (Band 5.5)

Overall, in the mentioned years, women were notably least holder of driving license compared to men in all age groups.

On the other hand, 5% of women used to hold a license in [redacted phone], although this number experienced a slight increase to almost 25% in the year 2006.

In rest of the age groups also, men consistently held a higher number above 60% in the year 1975-76 and above 65% in the year 2006, while the average figure for women were hovering around 20% in 1975-76 and 60% in 2006.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response provides a clear overview and identifies key trends, such as the gender gap and the increase in license holders over time. However, the selection of data is somewhat inconsistent. While you highlight the over-70s group, the description of the 'rest of the age groups' is vague and lacks specific data points from the charts to support the generalisations. To reach a higher band, ensure that you provide specific figures for all mentioned categories rather than using broad, imprecise descriptions like 'above 60%'. The comparison between the two years is generally well-handled, but more precise data extraction would strengthen the analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. There is a clear progression of ideas, and the use of cohesive devices such as 'However', 'On the other hand', and 'In rest of the age groups' helps guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the specific age group analysis from the general trends. To improve, ensure that referencing is more precise; for instance, 'In rest of the age groups' is slightly awkward and would be better phrased as 'In the remaining age groups'. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'possessing', 'skyrocketed', and 'hovering around'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'women were notably least holder', which should be 'women were notably the least likely to hold' or 'women held the lowest percentage of'. Additionally, 'In rest of the age groups' lacks the necessary article. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. Focusing on more accurate collocations will enhance your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'women were notably least holder' (incorrect noun phrase) and 'the average figure for women were' (subject-verb agreement error, as 'figure' is singular). Furthermore, 'In the year of 1975 to 1976' is slightly unnatural; 'between 1975 and 1976' would be more standard. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of error-free complex sentences and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
