Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you identify some main features, the analysis is fragmented and lacks a clear overview of the trends. You mention specific age groups but fail to synthesize the data effectively, such as noting the overall decline in licence holding for younger age groups or the general increase across most age brackets between 1975/76 and 2006. The report is also missing a concluding summary or a cohesive comparison of the two time periods. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview paragraph and cover all data points more comprehensively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks a logical structure. It consists of a series of isolated sentences rather than a cohesive report. There is no clear paragraphing, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and somewhat mechanical (e.g., 'Moving along with the data'). The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two time periods. To improve, group related information into distinct paragraphs—such as an overview, a paragraph for the 1975/76 data, and a paragraph for the 2006 data—and use linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'similarly' to connect your points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and basic. You frequently use phrases like 'number of' and 'age group of', which limits the sophistication of your writing. There are also errors in word choice and form, such as 'licence's' (incorrect pluralization) and 'comparitively' (spelling error). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. Focus on using more varied terminology to describe trends, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'fluctuate', or 'peak'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. There are issues with article usage ('the number of women holding the drivers licence'), incorrect preposition use ('In the age 17-20'), and punctuation errors (e.g., the slash in '1975/76' is used inconsistently). The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. For example, 'In the age 17-20 comparitively, number of males is higher than the women' is grammatically awkward. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
