Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the gender gap in older age groups and the lower percentages among younger people. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precise data points. For instance, the claim that middle-aged groups are 'nearly the same' is vague and does not accurately reflect the trends shown in the data. Furthermore, the inclusion of personal opinions in the conclusion—such as the document being 'vital' for employers—is irrelevant to an Academic Task 1 report, which should remain objective and focused solely on the provided data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the final paragraph introduces irrelevant information rather than summarizing the key trends. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'In overall' and 'exceptional of 70'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two years mentioned in the prompt versus the data provided.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'possesion', 'intrested', 'mddle', and 'aquired'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends accurately; for example, using 'compete of obtaining' is non-standard. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the frequent errors and lack of precise terminology for describing statistical trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable') hinder the overall quality of the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but these are frequently marred by grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('Men... have are more holders'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence construction ('they display as small percentage'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. These errors occur frequently and occasionally cause the reader to pause, though the overall message remains understandable.
