Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is superficial and lacks the necessary detail to provide a comprehensive summary. For instance, you mention that men have higher figures, but you do not provide specific data points or meaningful comparisons between the years 1975/76 and 2006. The report lacks a clear overview of the trends, and the under-length nature of the essay means that several key features of the graphs are omitted or under-developed, preventing a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. For example, the transition between the overall trend and the specific age groups is abrupt. There is a reliance on simple sentence structures, and the use of linking words is minimal, making the flow of information feel mechanical. To improve, you should use a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') to connect your ideas more fluidly and clearly signal the relationship between the data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'higher figure' and 'same figure' are used repeatedly, which restricts the precision of your report. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the difference is very short' (should be 'small') and 'the numbers is increased' (subject-verb agreement error). To reach a higher band, you need to incorporate a more varied range of vocabulary related to describing trends and data, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'witnessed a significant increase'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'men has higher figure' (should be 'men have a higher figure') and 'the numbers is increased' (should be 'the numbers increased'). Additionally, sentence structure is often simplistic or fragmented, such as 'Women aged groups between 40-49 and 30-39 are relatively same'. You need to work on using a mix of complex sentence structures and ensuring that your basic grammar, particularly verb tenses and pluralisation, is accurate to avoid distracting the reader.
