Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the overall upward trend and the gender gap. However, the analysis is inconsistent. For instance, the description of the 1975/76 data for the 40-59 age groups is confusingly phrased ('women was half in this year that hold licenses'), and the data for the 70+ age group is inaccurate based on the provided graph. Furthermore, the summary of the 2006 data is vague, particularly the reference to 'age group 30-to age'. To reach a higher band, you must ensure that all data points are clearly identified and accurately reported, avoiding vague descriptions that make it difficult for the reader to follow the trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. Phrases like 'Moreover similar patter observed' lack proper articles and grammatical connection. The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, particularly when jumping between years and age groups without clear signposting. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, which hinders the overall flow of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'proportion', 'held', and 'number'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'male driver holder' instead of 'male licence holders' and 'similar patter' instead of 'similar pattern'. Spelling errors, such as 'patter' for 'pattern', and grammatical inaccuracies in word forms (e.g., 'driver' instead of 'drivers') are present. To improve, you should aim to use a wider variety of synonyms and more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'a significant increase', 'a marginal difference', or 'the majority of'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include missing articles ('in age 40-49'), incorrect verb forms ('women was half'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('the 30-39 age groups shows'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band. You should focus on mastering basic sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex structures.
