Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified some main features, such as the overall trend that men hold more licences than women, the analysis is incomplete. You have not covered all age groups or provided a comprehensive comparison between the two years. The report lacks a clear overview of the data trends and fails to provide sufficient detail to satisfy the requirements of an Academic Task 1 response. To improve, ensure you cover all categories presented in the graph and provide a more thorough summary of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into two short paragraphs, which is insufficient for a full report. While there is a basic attempt at logical progression, the lack of cohesive devices makes the text feel disjointed. For example, the transition between the overview and the specific data points is abrupt. The use of referencing is limited, and the overall structure lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'holding driving licence' and 'licence hold'. There are also noticeable errors in word choice, such as 'opposite xender' (gender) and 'approxly' (approximately). The range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate precision or flexibility. To improve, try to incorporate more varied terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'significant', 'marginal', and 'fluctuated'. Additionally, ensure you proofread for spelling errors, as these detract from the professional tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'licence hold by male sex' (should be 'licences held by males') and 'age group of 70 and more' (should be 'age group of 70 and over'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is high. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensure you use correct verb forms and prepositions when describing statistical data.
