Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the general increase in licence holders between 1975/76 and 2006 and the age-related trends. However, the reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the statement that the 50-59 age group had the highest percentage at 85 in 2006 is correct, but the comparison to 1975/76 is poorly phrased. Furthermore, the description of the women's data is disjointed and contains contradictory information regarding which age group had the highest percentage. To improve, ensure that data points are clearly linked to the correct years and categories, and avoid vague descriptions like 'after that figure was drop down'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. Phrases like 'Movingahead' (spelling error) and 'At last' are used to transition between ideas, but they do not always create a logical flow. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when comparing the two years. While there is an attempt at an overview, the progression of ideas within the body paragraphs is occasionally repetitive and lacks the sophistication required for a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'the data of full car driving licence holders' instead of 'the percentage of people holding full driving licences'. The student relies on basic descriptors like 'highest percentage' and 'increased', which are repeated throughout the text. Spelling errors such as 'Britian', 'incresed', and 'percenatge' are present, though they do not significantly impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on using more varied synonyms and precise terminology related to data trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect preposition usage ('in in both gender'), subject-verb agreement errors ('women were less in car driving licence holders'), and awkward sentence construction ('there were age group 40-49 in 2006 when women percenatge of holding licence was the highest'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered fluent or accurate at a higher level.
